Quarterback

Patrick Mahomes (TRUST): Coming off a QB6 (19.6 points) scoring week, Mahomes has now been a top-six scorer in each of the past three weeks. His 8.4 yards per pass attempt against Buffalo were his highest rate in a game since Week 1 while he has thrown multiple touchdown passes in all but one game this season.

The 49ers left last week’s game potentially decimated on defense. Already without Nick Bosa, Arik Armstead, Jimmie Ward, Javon Kinlaw, and Emmanuel Mosely entering the game, Charvarius Ward (groin) and Talanoa Hufanga (concussion) left due to injuries. Bosa and both Wards could return this week, but this is a banged-up defense that has not faced many good quarterbacks. To open the year, San Francisco has not faced anyone close to Mahomes’s weight class, facing Justin Fields, Geno Smith, Russell Wilson, Matthew Stafford, Baker Mayfield, and Marcus Mariota. Outside of Smith, all of those quarterbacks have had their troubles to open the year. Mariota also just sliced up their secondary unit for 9.2 yards per pass attempt and one incompletion.

San Francisco is allowing just 9.1 passing points per game (fourth), but that number can be questioned holding much water based on their opponents and current health. Even if it does hold up under scrutiny, Mahomes just faced the number defense in the NFL and was a front-end QB1, where he will reside again this weekend.
