Week 9 DFS Picks: Core Players and Best Plays

Every week, I will go through the players I am targeting to play in DFS for all games, tournaments, and game stacks.

The idea is that this will paint a clearer picture of framing lineups.

Team & Game Stacks

Our core players are the ones we will have the most exposure to at their respective positions.

They can be played in cash games and tournaments.

I will analyze the player selections and game writeups, but please refer to the Week 9 Worksheet for a detailed breakdown of the players and games.

Quarterback

Josh Allen ($8,900/$7,300)

This is one of the best quarterback slates we have had all season, highlighted by an afternoon showdown between the Chiefs and Bills.

I will be playing both of these quarterbacks, but I have a slight edge for Allen.

These high-profile games are when Allen typically takes on more ownership of the offense and posts some crooked fantasy lines.

He is averaging 26.5 fantasy points per game in the nine matchups between these teams.

Allen has used his legs a lot in these games.

He averages 10.4 runs per game against the Chiefs with double-digit rushing attempts in seven straight games in this matchup.

That has resulted in 54.1 rushing yards per game, with a low of 32.

Allen has a 9.5% scramble rate in these games to go along with 5.4 designed runs per game.

The Chiefs are 30th in rushing yards allowed per game to quarterbacks this season (26.9).

Patrick Mahomes ($8,500/$7,100)

On the other side of the coin, Mahomes is the hottest quarterback in football.

He has 3 or more passing touchdowns in three straight games and in four of his past five.

Mahomes has completed at least 70% of his passes in four consecutive weeks.

He has also thrown for over 8.0 yards per pass attempt in three straight games after failing to hit that arbitrary mark over the opening five weeks of the season.

On top of all of that, he has at least 28 yards rushing in four straight games.

The Bills have allowed the most rushing yards per game to quarterbacks (31.1).

Mahomes has averaged 22.5 fantasy points per game over those matchups, completing 68.5% of his passes for 7.5 yards per pass attempt and a 5.8% touchdown rate.

Caleb Williams ($7,300/$5,700)

When paying down from Allen and Mahomes, Williams is the standout option.

This Cincinnati defense keeps giving.

The closest game we have for Williams to this one was against Dallas, when he was QB1 overall in scoring (29.1 points).

Cincinnati is allowing 17.3 passing points per game (29th).

The Bears have a 27.5-point team total here.

Cincinnati has allowed 27 or more points in seven straight games.

The Bengals just gave up 39 points to a Jets offense that had scored 39 points total over their previous three games.

The Bengals have allowed QB1 scoring weeks to Carson WentzAaron Rodgers, and Justin Fields this season.

The Bengals are 30th in pressure rate (26.9%) and had the league’s worst pressure rate on Sunday against Fields, who invites more pressure than any other quarterback.

Trey Hendrickson was back last week but had to leave the game early and is expected to miss Sunday’s game.

The state of the Chicago backfield could prompt them to throw more this week as a bonus outcome.
