Quarterback
Cam Newton: Newton returned for his first start since last season and immediately made a fantasy impact, posting a QB4 (26.2 points) scoring week. Newton threw a pair of touchdown passes and added 46 yards and a rushing touchdown to his totals.
The Panthers used Newton effectively as he was 8-of-9 passing for 89 yards (9.9 Y/A) and two touchdowns on first down pass attempts in Week 11, but we did see some of the passing struggles he had a year ago without offensive leverage as he passed for 5.6 Y/A on all other downs.
The Miami defense has come around over the past month, allowing 6.1 yards per pass attempt over their past four games as opposed to 8.1 Y/A prior. They also have only allowed one quarterback (Tom Brady) to throw more than two touchdown passes against them all season.
But that said, they also still allowed Joe Flacco to post 17.9 fantasy points last week. Miami has faced a string of mobile passers, drawing Josh Allen (55 rushing yards and a score), Tyrod Taylor (23 yards), and Lamar Jackson (39 yards) over their past four games, but Newton’s rushing ability has him back as a fringe-QB1 option.
