Quarterback
Justin Fields: Our expectations were not high for Fields last week, and he still finished below those.
Fields completed 9 of 17 (52.9%) passes for 45 yards (2.6 Y/A) against Denver, rushing for 31 yards and taking 9 sacks.
It was the third time in his career that Fields was sacked 7 or more times while throwing for fewer than 100 yards.
Over the past 10 years, the rest of the NFL has had four of those games.
In the 2000s, no other quarterback has had more than one of those games.
As bad as things were, Aaron Glenn reiterated that there are no plans to bench Fields in favor of Tyrod Taylor.
Removing Garrett Wilson from this offense does not do Fields any additional favors.
Fields can still utilize his mobility, putting him in play as a boom-or-bust fantasy option on the QB1/QB2 line.
Fields has been the QB2, QB33, QB4, QB7, and QB31 in his starts.
He is averaging 9.6 passing points per game (QB31) while leading the position with 8.3 rushing points per game.
The matchup is at least lighter.
We are not banking on much passing efficiency, but Carolina is last in the NFL in pressure rate (24%) and sack rate (2.6%).
When Fields has been kept clean, he has completed 75.3% of his passes (QB11) for 7.6 yards per pass attempt (QB18) compared to a 47.8% completion rate (21st) and 4.7 Y/A (26th) when pressured.
Carolina has allowed a QB1 scorer in three straight starts to Drake Maye (23.2 points), Tua Tagovailoa (22.7 points), and Dak Prescott (22.3 points).
Bryce Young: Young had his best game of the season on Sunday, setting season-highs with a 68% completion rate and 8.0 yards per pass attempt.
He added 3 passing touchdowns on his way to a QB15 (18.5 points) scoring week.
His previous season high was only 6.6 yards per attempt.
Young only threw for 199 yards.
He has hit 200 yards passing just once all season.
That said, we have seen over the past two weeks that when Carolina runs the football effectively, Young can at least be put in a position to play complementary football and succeed in the red zone.
When Carolina has had to build the game around Young as a passer, that's when things get sketchy.
This is a kind of implied game environment where things should not get away from Carolina, and they can play that way, even if they are not running at the same degree as they have in the past two weeks.
The Jets are 31st in pressure rate (25.5%) and are 29th in passing points allowed per attempt (0.575).
That puts Young back on the board as a matchup-based QB2.
