Trust = spike production for that player
Quarterback
Justin Herbert (TRUST): With a QB24 (8.4 points) scoring week in Week 7, Herbert has now been a QB1 scorer in just one of his past three games. A lot has gone wrong of late in terms of his rib injury, the loss of Keenan Allen, an offensive line in flux, a limited scheme with a lack of surrounding speed among his receiving corps, and also just running into a tough draw against the Broncos defense last week.
Herbert threw just 4.2 yards per attempt on Monday night, his lowest rate in a game outside of being shut out as a rookie against the Patriots (3.9 Y/A). It was the first time that Herbert failed to throw a touchdown pass in a game since that very same game in Week 13 of the 2020 season.
Herbert was pressured on 37.7% of his dropbacks on Monday night, completing just 10-of-21 passes for 65 yards (3.1 Y/A) when pressured. For the season, Herbert now carries a 53.4% completion rate and 5.4 Y/A under pressure versus a 72.8% completion rate and 7.4 Y/A when kept clean. Nine of his 10 touchdown passes have come while kept clean.
This offensive line is never going to be back to fully operational based on their expected starting unit this season, but he at least is going against a Seattle defense that is 21st in pressure rate.
The Seahawks rallied a week ago across from a limited Arizona offense. Maybe there is a similar false hope here that the Seahawks' defense is an elixir for the struggles the Chargers have had, but things are just broken beyond repair. I am not quite there yet with the Chargers, especially with Keenan Allen expected back.
Even with including last week’s performance at home versus the Cardinals, Seattle is allowing 8.3 yards per pass attempt (30th), a 4.3% touchdown rate (20th), and 0.47 passing points per attempt (25th) to opposing passers. Despite all of that, Seattle has oddly enough only allowed one QB1 scoring week all season because they have allowed multiple passing touchdowns in just one game.
Herbert has been a QB1 scorer against Las Vegas and Kansas City, two other bottom-10 pass defenses in passing points allowed per attempt he has faced this season.
I am still following the matchup and the implied team total here as more than enough reason to be bullish on Herbert bouncing back this week, but if this offense cannot get on track this week we will have to recalibrate things from a top-down stance moving forward.
