Quarterback

Kyler Murray: It wasn’t pretty again, but once again Murray for there in the end for fantasy.

Murray threw for a season-low 5.0 yards per attempt and 175 yards on Sunday, but with a pair of touchdown passes and 60 yards rushing, he was able to close as the QB8 (19.0 points). It was Murray’s third straight game inside of the top-10, although he has just one top-5 scoring week this season.

Murray runs into a Rams defense he has struggled to crack. The Rams have been a consistent thorn for Murray to start his career. In eight career starts against the Rams, Murray has completed just 58.9% of his passes for 6.2 Y/A with seven touchdown passes and eight interceptions. Over those eight matchups, Murray rushed for single-digit yardage four times. Dealing with a hamstring issue, it is hard to count on rushing from Murray if he is good to go Sunday.

Murray has finished higher than QB15 in just one of those starts while averaging 12.9 fantasy points per game. When these teams met in Week 3, Murray had his lowest-scoring game of the season (13.4 points).

It is hard to move away from Murray as a QB1 since he has regularly been getting there for fantasy this season despite having the worst season of his early career. It is also is an extremely thin week at quarterback. But his hamstring injury and that history versus the Rams definitely places any pause in expecting a ceiling performance.

*As we have hit the weekend, Colt McCoy starting Sunday has gained momentum.  McCoy started three games for the Cardinals a year ago and was useful for fantasy in two of those starts. McCoy completed 74.7% of his passes with 7.5 Y/A with three touchdowns. While that completion rate was strong, it was also aided by McCoy having an average depth of target of just 5.2 yards downfield, which was the lowest rate in the NFL last season.

McCoy had starts of QB13 (16.3 points) and QB8 (22.9 points) surrounding one week as the QB35 (0.2 points) to keep us honest if plugging in McCoy as a QB2 fill-in.
