Week 17 DFS Picks: Core Players and Best Plays

Every Sunday in the weekly fantasy chats, I get asked about my favorite plays of the week or who is my player pool that weekend for DFS.

This article series covers exactly that.

I will go through the players I am targeting as core plays for all formats here. I will cover tournament plays and games to target for stacks in other posts.

The idea is that this will paint a clearer picture of framing lineups.

Week 17 DFS Content:

Our core players are the players that we will have the most exposure to in their positions.

They can be played in cash games and tournaments and are the players we are primarily building our lineups with.

I will have some analysis on the player selections and game writeups, but check out the Week 17 Worksheet for a fully detailed breakdown of the players and games.

Quarterback

Jalen Hurts ($8,300 DraftKings/$9,200 FanDuel)

Hurts has been a QB1 scorer now in 13-of-15 games and a top-six scorer in 10 of those.

He is in another great spot to keep collecting front-end scoring weeks against a passive Arizona defense.

The Cardinals are blitzing at the league’s lowest rate (15.8%) and are pressuring passers at a 32.4% rate (27th).

Arizona is 31st in the league in passing points allowed per attempt (0.500) and is allowing a 6.0% touchdown rate to opposing passers (31st).

The Cardinals are also allowing 4.0 rushing points per game to quarterbacks, 26th in the league.

Brock Purdy ($7,000/$8,500)

Purdy turned in an inopportune dud in Week 16. Not only for fantasy gamers but also for his MVP chances.

While the latter does mean a lot to us for fantasy purposes, the 49ers are heading to Washington, which is the elixir needed to get back to turning in high efficiency through the air.

Washington is allowing a league-high 18.9 passing points per game, surrendering 7.7 yards per pass attempt (29th), 12.0 yards per completion(29th), and a league-high 6.2% touchdown rate.

Washington is 31st in the NFL in terms of pressure rate (30.3%).

When Purdy has not been pressured, he has completed 75.7% of his passes (second in the league) for a league-high 10.5 Y/A with 19 touchdowns and five interceptions.
