Week 5 DFS Picks: Tournament Plays

Every Sunday in the weekly fantasy chats, I get asked about my favorite plays of the week or who is my player pool that weekend for DFS.

This article series covers exactly that.

I will go through the players I am targeting as the tournament plays for all formats and will cover core players and games to target for stacks in other posts.

The idea is that this will paint a clearer picture of framing lineups.

Week 5 DFS Content:

It is not that all tournament players cannot be used in cash games. If a player here works out for your team structure in cash games surrounding your primary core, use them.

These are just the players that come with some element of inherent risk but are the primary players that I still want to be ahead of the field on compared to the percentage of rosters they are projected to make this weekend.

I will have some analysis on the player selections and game writeups, but check out the Week 5 Worksheet for a fully detailed breakdown of the players and games.

Quarterback

Tua Tagovailoa ($7,100 DraftKings/$8,000 FanDuel)

If the Giants want to play Miami aggressively, this is a week to play for Tua’s upside.

The Giants are blitzing at the second-highest rate in the league (50.4% of dropbacks).

Against the blitz this season, Tagovailoa is 23-of-34 (67.6%) for 260 yards (7.6 Y/A) with four touchdowns. His 129.5 rating against the blitz is third in the NFL.

When teams blitz Tua and do not create pressure, he is averaging 9.3 yards per pass attempt.

If the Giants decide to change course and play coverage, they have to get pressure without sending extra defenders since Tagovailoa is also averaging 10.3 yards per pass attempt when he is not pressured.

Regardless of what the Giants are doing, they are still 21st in the league in passing points allowed per attempt (0.332).

The one thing saving the New York pass defense is that they are facing the fifth-fewest attempts since they have been flooded three of the four opening weeks.

That is the only thing offering some resistance to going all in here. But if Miami is in cruise control, Tua likely had a major contribution in getting there.
