Panthers vs. Eagles Fantasy Quarterback Preview
Bryce Young
Coming out of the bye, Young is eighth in yards per pass attempt (7.8), 6th in yards per completion (12.6), and 9th in touchdown rate (5.6%).
Young has produced 1.0 EPA or more on 29.7% of his dropbacks, fourth in the league.
Carolina has adopted a more aggressive approach this season, putting more on Young's shoulders.
Carolina is second in the NFL in pass rate over expectation (+8.1%).
They have thrown the ball 10.1% more than expected on first downs (also second in the league).
Young is averaging a career-high 8.3 air yards per pass attempt.
On throws of 10 or more yards downfield, Young has completed 61.4% (35 of 57) of his attempts.
His completion rates on these throws were 42.7% as a rookie in 2023, 47.6% in 2024, and 47.4% in 2025.
Young already has three top-seven scoring weeks.
He had two top-10 scoring weeks in all of 2025.
Young's only blemish was a QB22 scoring week (13.6 points) against Cleveland, to keep us honest.
The Panthers have a lower-end team total on the road, which could signal a limited ceiling.
Although the Eagles have had their issues, they are still ninth in the league in passing points allowed per attempt (0.38), allowing a 62.4% completion rate (8th) and a 3.4% touchdown rate (8th).
They have been pressure-sensitive.
When the Eagles have gotten pressure, they have allowed a 34% completion rate (2nd) and 4.6 Y/A without a touchdown pass.
But without pressure, they have allowed a 73.4% completion rate (20th) for 7.9 Y/A (24th).
Young has also been pressure-sensitive.
When pressured, he has completed 44.4% of his passes (15th) for 6.1 Y/A (14th).
From a clean pocket, Young has completed 76.7% of his passes (8th) for 9.2 Y/A (5th).
They have allowed some solid fringe-QB1 production to quarterbacks, but only one top-10 scoring week.
They have allowed big plays, giving up 11.2 yards per completion (20th).
The Eagles allowed 331 passing yards to Trevor Lawrence and 317 to Matthew Stafford over the past two games.
They allowed multiple passing touchdowns to Jayden Daniels, Case Keenum, and Lawrence, so we don't have to run and hide from this defense, either.
They have also allowed 5.2 rushing points per game to quarterbacks (29th), as another avenue for Young to chip in production.
I prefer to use Young as a higher-end QB2 given the implied line and the pressure stats laid out, but this game still offers upside if both sides can push each other.
Carolina is playing aggressively on offense.
We just need to see proof they can punch up on a front-end caliber defense.
Jalen Hurts
It has been a tough start to the year for Hurts.
He has been the QB15 or lower in each of his past four outings, making him a QB2 scorer in 9 of his 13 regular-season games over the past two seasons.
Hurts is completing 57.8% of his passes, ahead of only Jameis Winston (57.6%) and Malik Willis (56.2%).
He averages 6.1 yards per pass attempt, ranking 26th.
16.2% of his passes have been inaccurate (28th).
24% of his dropbacks have lost 1.0 EPA or worse, ahead of only Sam Darnold (25.5%).
On top of that, Hurts is averaging career lows in rushing attempts (4.6 per game) and rushing yards (21.4 per game).
The offensive line is still a mess, with left guard being the worst of multiple spots.
Hurts has a league-high 34.4% of pressures credited to left guard play.
I'm not sure this is an area that gets better.
Carolina is getting pressure at a 39.9% rate (8th).
Carolina will still be without their two starting cornerbacks, Mike Jackson and Jaycee Horn.
They did hold up in Week 4, however, without those guys.
Jared Goff threw for 412 yards that night, but he had 52 pass attempts, completing 61.5% with just 1 touchdown.
Carolina is 10th in passing points allowed per attempt (0.38).
It is hard to put Hurts above QB2 status confidently.
I still believe that Carolina could be a shootout team.
We have to take a chance on the Eagles being functional, which requires a major step of faith.
The Eagles could have DeVonta Smith and Saquon Barkley back this week to help there.
Philly got Dallas Goedert back last week.
Hurts only has 39 dropbacks this season with Smith and Goedert on the field together.
If Hurts is willing to run, Carolina has allowed 36.5 rushing yards per game to quarterbacks (31st).
In Week 1, Caleb Williams rushed for 65 yards and 2 touchdowns.
In Week 2, Cooper Rush and Jack Strand combined for 36 rushing yards.
In Week 3, Deshaun Watson rushed for 45 yards.
They then played Goff in Week 4 before the bye.
