Steelers vs. Buccaneers Fantasy Quarterback Preview

Aaron Rodgers

Rodgers has delivered three consecutive QB1 scoring weeks, throwing 3 touchdown passes in each of the past three games.

No quarterback has scored more points over expectations in the past three weeks than Rodgers.

He has run hot in the touchdown department (9 touchdowns on 4.5 expected), but he also faced matchups that boosted his upside and efficiency.

The Steelers are also willing to throw the football.

Pittsburgh is fourth in pass rate over expectation (+6.7%).

Tampa Bay is a pass funnel as well, with teams throwing the ball 5.2% over expectations against them (4th highest).

The Bucs have been a good pass defense against that volume, which makes Rodgers more of a volume-based QB2 here.

I expect this to be a spot where some of that touchdown regression takes hold.

Tampa Bay has not allowed a quarterback to finish higher than QB12 this season, even with Joe Burrow (14.2 points), Dak Prescott (12.6 points), and Jordan Love (13.1 points) in the sample.

The Bucs are struggling to generate overall pressure, ranking 30th (26.7%), but that number is misleading.

Opposing passers have thrown the ball within 2.65 seconds of the snap against Tampa Bay, the second-fastest in the league.

Teams know the Bucs are sending blitzes (they are third in blitz rate at 41%), so they work to get the ball out quickly.

Prescott and Love posted the league's fastest throw times in their weeks against the Bucs.

Burrow was second.

Only Deshaun Watson and Kyler Murray have held the ball against Tampa, and the Bucs had double-digit pressures in both games.

Rodgers has been throwing more downfield this season, but he still fits the pocket-passer mold, ranking 12th in time to throw (2.69 seconds).

When blitzed, Rodgers is eighth in time to throw (2.44 seconds).

Jalon Daniels

Daniels played a clean game in his first career win as a starter last week in Dallas.

He completed 19 of 25 passes (76%) for 189 yards (7.6 Y/A) and a touchdown, and he rushed 7 times for 23 yards.

That was still only good for QB18 (13.9 points) on the week.

Daniels remains a QB2 here in a tougher matchup.

The Steelers rank seventh in passing points allowed per attempt (0.37), while Dallas ranks 31st (0.63).

The Steelers have allowed only one top-20 week, and it was to Joe Burrow.

Their resume includes Daniel Jones, Deshaun Watson, and Cooper Rush, but where does Daniels stack up there?

They also faced Drake Maye.

The one thing that Pittsburgh has done is allow big plays.

They have allowed 11.5 yards per completion (22nd) and 19 passing plays of 20-plus yards (31st in the league).

Only the Lions have allowed more (23).

Daniels still can use his legs.

He has scrambled on 16.4% of his dropbacks over the past two weeks, the league's highest rate.

Pittsburgh did a solid job against Maye (17 yards rushing) and Watson (22), the two quarterbacks prone to increased scrambling they have faced.

Holding the ball could come back on Daniels.

He has been credited with 29.4% of his own pressures, the highest rate for a quarterback over the past two weeks.
