Rams vs. Raiders Fantasy Quarterback Preview

Matthew Stafford

The Rams are coming off a disappointing outing against Arizona last week.

The team scored just 16 points (their implied total was 32).

Stafford completed 25 of 33 passes (75.8%) for 222 yards (6.7 Y/A) with 2 touchdowns.

That was enough to survive as the QB12 (16.9 points) in a low-scoring week.

Stafford has been a top-12 scorer in four of his past five games.

He has thrown multiple touchdowns in four of his past five games, but his yards-per-pass-attempt are down.

He has averaged 6.8 yards per pass attempt over the past four weeks, 17th in the league.

Losing Davante Adams (and already losing Terrance Ferguson) takes another key piece out of the offense for Stafford's efficiency.

The good news is that the Rams have leaned into the pass to offset the efficiency dip.

They have thrown the ball over pass rate expectations in five straight games, posting a 68.2% dropback rate on an expected rate of 60.8%

Maybe that shifts after the Adams injury (this is another good rushing matchup), but there are matchup notes here to raise Stafford's efficiency and keep him in play as a QB1.

The other good news is that the Raiders defense has allowed 24.7 points per game to quarterbacks over the past four weeks.

They have allowed multiple touchdown passes in four straight games.

The Raiders are now allowing 7.9 yards per pass attempt (28th), 12.4 yards per completion (29th), and a 6.7% touchdown rate (29th).

They are allowing a first down or touchdown on 37.3% of opponent pass attempts, 27th in the league.

Kirk Cousins

Cousins maintained his strong output on Sunday, completing 23 of 41 passes (56.1%) for 313 yards (7.6 Y/A) with 2 touchdowns and an interception.

Cousins has thrown multiple passing touchdowns in five of six games.

He has been a top-10 fantasy scorer in four of his past five games.

The Raiders have been in high-scoring games while struggling to run the ball, which has increased Cousins' volume.

Cousins has thrown the ball 52 and 41 times in two of the past three games in shootouts with the Chiefs and Bills.

They also cratered in a Week 5 blowout loss to the Patriots, so we need them to fight back and keep up with the Rams if they are scoring points.

The matchup here for Cousins is more in line with Week 5, so there is some pause on keeping Cousins as more of a high-end QB2 rather than locking him into 1QB spots.

The Rams rank sixth in passing points allowed (11.6 per game), with a 57.5% completion rate (3rd) and 5.8 yards per pass attempt (2nd) against.

They have allowed no more than 218 passing yards in a game, including against Josh Allen and Brock Purdy.

The Rams have been good against play-action passing, which Cousins' plan is built on.

The Rams are allowing a 60.5% completion rate (6th), 6.8 Y/A (11th), and a 2.6% touchdown rate (7th) on play-action passes.

Using play action, Cousins leads the NFL in fantasy points per dropback (0.83), is second in rating (138.8), second in EPA per dropback (0.48), sixth in yards per pass attempt (9.1 Y/A), first in touchdown rate (12.7%), and has zero interceptions.

The Rams do come into Sunday banged up, however.

Trent McDuffie still isn't practicing.

Nate Landman is in concussion protocol.

Poona Ford and Kobie Turner were lost to injuries this past week.
