Ravens vs. Bills Fantasy Quarterback Preview
Josh Allen (TRUST)
Allen comes out of the bye leading all quarterbacks in fantasy points per game (26.9).
He has been a top-10 scorer in five of six games this season.
Buffalo has made good on a few offseason promises.
Allen is playing under center at a career-high 55.2% rate, which has led to a career-high 35.7% play-action rate.
Allen is third in the league in fantasy points on play-action passing, completing 40 of 61 (65.6%) for 9.0 yards per pass attempt (3rd).
After a career-low 7.3 air yards per pass attempt last season, Allen is pushing the ball downfield more, averaging 8.3 air yards per throw (7th).
That has led to career-high marks in yards per pass attempt (8.8) and yards per completion (13.2).
Allen has cooled off downfield lately.
Over his past three games, Allen has completed 12 of 29 (41.4%) throws 10 or more yards downfield, 26th in the league over that span.
But he is expected to get D.J. Moore back this week.
With Moore on the field this season, Allen has completed 65.5% (19 of 29) of his passes for 10+ yards, which would rank second in the league over the full season.
Allen has only 72 dropbacks with Moore on the field this season, but on those snaps, he has completed 67.7% of his passes for 9.6 yards per attempt.
On 128 dropbacks without Moore on the field, Allen has completed 66% of his passes for 8.3 yards per pass attempt.
It has also been a benefit to gamers that Buffalo's defense is as bad as Allen has had, which has pushed Buffalo.
The Bills have already played in five games in which they have allowed 24 or more points.
That is one short of the most the Bills have allowed in a season since 2020.
Buffalo has already allowed 30 or more points in four games this season.
The most they have allowed in a season since Allen's breakout in 2020 is five.
They have allowed 29-plus points in five of six games, with the only exception being the Chargers game.
Since 2020, when Allen's defense allows 30-plus points, he averages 30.4 fantasy points.
When they allow 24 or more points (below the Baltimore team total), Allen averages 28.1 fantasy points per game.
You already know how we handle these types of big-game environments.
For now, we assume Lamar Jackson is drawing live to return this week.
If so, we expect the high-scoring atmosphere implied here.
Everyone remembers the 41-40 shootout these teams played to kick off last season.
In that game, Allen had 38.8 fantasy points.
The Ravens have had a light schedule so far, facing Daniel Jones, Tyler Shough, Cam Ward, Michael Penix, and Deshaun Watson.
The other games were against Dak Prescott and Joe Burrow.
They held Prescott to 6.9 yards per pass attempt, but it was also a 34-31 game in which Prescott still got 18.9 fantasy points despite throwing only 1 touchdown.
They just allowed Burrow to be the QB1 overall last week (28.9 points).
The Ravens have allowed rushing production to a handful of guys who are not in Allen's weight class.
Tyler Shough (23 yards and a touchdown), Dak Prescott (19 yards), Cam Ward (27 yards), Deshaun Watson (29 yards), and Burrow (12 yards) all added double-digit rushing yardage against Baltimore.
Allen has never faced Jesse Minter, but he has thrown multiple touchdowns in three of four games against Miami's defenses led by Anthony Weaver.
Lamar Jackson
We are starting off another week under the premise that this could be the one we see Jackson return to the field.
Last week felt like the closest Jackson has come to getting back, but ultimately he was unable to suit up Sunday.
We will monitor his status and adjust as needed throughout the week.
If Jackson is ready to play, he moves back into the front-end QB1 field.
Jackson has been hyper-efficient this season, completing 70.8% of his passes (2nd), averaging 10.1 yards per pass attempt, 14.2 yards per completion, and a 6.3% touchdown rate (7th).
Jackson averages 0.53 passing points per dropback, which would lead the league over the full season.
With Zay Flowers on the field, Jackson is at 0.63 passing points per dropback.
The hope is that Jackson's potential return and the matchup push Baltimore to be more aggressive, since they have had issues running the ball behind their patchwork offensive line.
When we last saw Jackson in the first half of Week 4, that was happening.
The Ravens were 8% above pass-rate expectations in the first half of that game, and the offense thrived.
The Bills have allowed 21.3 passing points per game, 31st in the league.
They rank 27th in passing points allowed per attempt (0.53).
Every quarterback they've faced, except Justin Herbert, has thrown multiple touchdowns.
To be fair to Buffalo, they have faced a tough passing schedule, but that continues here if Jackson starts.
When Jackson works from a clean pocket, he completes 78.8% of his passes (4th) for a league-high 11.5 yards per pass attempt.
Even when pressured, Jackson has strong splits relative to his peers, completing 53.3% of his passes (4th) for 7.0 Y/A (9th).
Running the ball is where Jackson's ankle is a wild card.
Last year, when he was injured and returned, he didn't run late in the year.
We want him moving here to tap into that extra gear for fantasy.
The Bills have faced only one mobile quarterback, Drake Maye, who rushed for 54 yards.
