Quarterback

Geno Smith: Smith delivered again this past week, closing as the QB5 (20.8 points) against the Cardinals. It was Smith’s fifth QB1 scoring week over his past five games.

Halfway through the NFL season, Smith is ninth in the NFL in EPA per dropback (0.08), first in completion rate (73.1%), and sixth in yards pass attempt (7.8 Y/A).

We know that Todd Bowles is going to try and dial up some heat as the Bucs 32.1% of the time (ninth), but Tampa Bay is just 22nd in the league in pressure rate (31.3%).

Smith has been blitzed on 32.7% of his dropbacks (ninth highest) and has completed 71.7% of his passes against the blitz (third) for 7.3 Y/A (13th).

Tampa Bay is a tougher task overall, however. The Bucs are allowing 13.5 passing points per game, which is 14th in the league. Smith has faced three defenses higher in that department in the Broncos, 49ers, and Giants, closing as the QB15, QB30, and QB11 in those games. That fringe QB1 area is where Smith will sit again this weekend.
