Fans will hope for some closer games in NFL Week 9 after a historic week of blowouts in Week 8. Just one game was decided by a single-digit margin. This week's marquee game features the Chiefs and Bills squaring off in Buffalo on Sunday. We'll also see if Mike Tomlin's Steelers can avoid a third-straight loss to the red-hot Colts, who have the NFL's best record at 7-1.

Here are the NFL Week 9 lines, along with storylines to watch, ATS trends, and our expert NFL betting tips.

NFL Betting Lines Week 9: Odds, Storylines & Betting Tips

The idea of “Any Given Sunday” didn't apply last week, as the average margin of victory in Week 8 was the second-largest since the 1970 merger for any week before November at over 18.4 points per game. However, thanks to some sweet regression, we expect to see some closer games during NFL Week 9.

We'll see a big game right away on Thursday night when Lamar Jackson hopefully returns from a hamstring injury against the Dolphins in Miami, where he's had some of his best NFL games. The Ravens are just 2-5, but are the favorites to win the AFC North, if you can believe it. A loss there would be painful.

In the early Sunday afternoon slate, all eyes should be in Pittsburgh with the Steelers trying to figure things out defensively against an Indianapolis offense that has been historically great with Daniel Jones (MVP candidate), Jonathan Taylor (Offensive POY candidate), and Tyler Warren (Offensive ROY candidate) all making strong award cases. You might as well say Shane Steichen is the Coach of the Year, too, as no one saw the Colts with the best record in the NFL (7-1) at this point of the season.

In the late afternoon window, everyone should be glued to the Chiefs vs. Bills, as it's another chapter of the hottest quarterback rivalry in the game today between Josh Allen and MVP favorite Patrick Mahomes. Oddly enough, Allen has won the last four regular-season matches with Kansas City but is infamously 0-4 in the postseason against Mahomes and the Chiefs, who are red hot on both sides of the ball. The Bills vs. Chiefs is always appointment viewing.

For the prime-time games to close the week, we'll see if Jayden Daniels (Commanders) and Kyler Murray (Cardinals) can return to action, or if we'll have to see another game from Jacoby Brissett and Marcus Mariota. At least in Brissett's case, he's played well and would get to feast on Dallas' putrid defense.
