Every week, I'll review the players I am targeting for DFS across all games, tournaments, and game stacks.
The idea is to paint a clearer picture of how to build lineups.
Calling these players tournament plays does not mean you need to avoid them in cash games.
If a player here fits your team structure in cash games around your primary core, use them.
These players carry some inherent risk, but I still want to be ahead of the field on them, based on the percentage of rosters projected to carry them this weekend.
I will have some analysis on the player selections and game write-ups, but check out the Week 8 Worksheet for a fully detailed breakdown of the players and games.
Rich's Week 8 Quarterback Tournament Plays
- Lamar Jackson ($8,500 FanDuel/$6,800 DraftKings)
- Drake Maye ($8,200 FanDuel/$6,500 DraftKings)
- Kyler Murray ($7,400 FanDuel/$5,600 DraftKings)
Lamar Jackson
Jackson has been hyper-efficient this season, completing 70.8% of his passes (2nd) for 10.1 yards per pass attempt, 14.2 yards per completion, and a 6.3% touchdown rate (7th).
Jackson averages 0.53 passing points per dropback, which would lead the league over the full season.
With Zay Flowers on the field, Jackson is at 0.63 passing points per dropback.
The hope is that Jackson's potential return and the matchup push Baltimore to be more aggressive, since they have had issues running the ball behind their patchwork offensive line.
When we last saw Jackson in the first half of Week 4, the Ravens were 8% above pass-rate expectations, and the offense thrived.
The Bills have allowed 21.3 passing points per game, 31st in the league.
They rank 27th in passing points allowed per attempt (0.53).
Every quarterback they've faced, except Justin Herbert, has thrown multiple touchdowns.
Lamar can get there as a passer in this matchup, but if he can run, that is icing on the cake.
The Bills have faced only one mobile quarterback, Drake Maye, who rushed for 54 yards.
Drake Maye
Maye is on a roll, ripping off four straight weeks as the QB1, QB1, QB3, and QB2 in weekly scoring.
He has gotten the deep ball back, averaging 9.5 air yards per attempt over that span, second in the league.
On throws 10 or more yards downfield over that stretch, Maye has completed 31 of 48 passes (64.6%), third in the league, with a league-high 8 touchdowns.
On throws 10 or more yards downfield, Miami has allowed a league-high 66.7% completion rate (30 of 45) for a league-high 15.8 yards per pass attempt.
77.8% (14 of 18) of the touchdowns against Miami have come through the air, the highest rate in the league.
The Dolphins are 31st in passing points allowed per attempt (0.61).
Kyler Murray
This isn't an easy click, but neither was Bo Nix last week.
Murray is averaging 6.5 yards per pass attempt (22nd) with a 2.4% touchdown rate (31st).
But the matchup is right, and Minnesota should finally be pushed to score points for the first time this season with Murray.
Detroit has allowed a league-high 22.2 passing points per game.
The fewest points they allowed in a game was last week to Jordan Love (17.0).
The Lions have been more efficient as a pass defense the past two games.
They allowed 6.2 yards per pass attempt and a 61.7% completion rate to Jacoby Brissett in Week 5 and then 6.1 Y/A and a 60% completion rate to Love on Sunday.
But they still allowed Brissett to throw 3 touchdowns and Love 2.
Detroit has allowed multiple touchdown passes in every game this season.
The Lions also coax out passing volume.
They face a league-high 48.0 dropbacks per game.
That can pad passing stats and create more scramble opportunities.
Murray is scrambling on 9.9% of his dropbacks, the league's fourth-highest rate.
