The 2024 NFL Combine is in the books, and Eric Froton of NBC Sports was there for all of the action.
He joined the Sharp Angles Podcast to discuss the biggest storylines of the weekend including the record-setting run by Texas WR Xavier Worthy, who Eric does not see as a pure deep threat based on his usage last season.
He’s a deep threat. That’s what he’s doing he’s running downfield, but you saw kind of a usage change over the past two years.
In 2022, 39% of his targets were 20 plus yards downfield.
Last year, [Texas coach] Steve Sarkisian dialed that back and started using him differently.
Worthy had a 17 .7% deep target rate, that is less than half of the deep targets he received the previous season.
So you saw him get more hitches, more of the quick outs, more of the manufactured touches to take advantage of that explosive speed, and I think he added that other element to his tape
