SEC Win Total Best Bet: LSU Over 8.5 Wins

If Lane Kiffin doesn’t hit the over on this prop, LSU fans will already start questioning the program’s massive offseason investment.

Not only did LSU pay a steep price to lure Kiffin away from Ole Miss, but it also added many of the top transfers around the sport such as left tackle Jordan Seaton (Colorado), quarterback Sam Leavitt (Arizona State) and safety Ty Benefield (Boise State).

There’s always some doubt as to whether a portal class will quickly add up to the sum of its parts, but LSU has as much talent as anyone in the SEC.

LSU’s schedule also bodes well for Kiffin hitting the over on this prop, as we can probably lock these games in as wins:

  • Week 1 vs. Clemson
  • Week 2 vs. Louisiana Tech
  • Week 5 vs. McNeese State
  • Week 6 at Kentucky
  • Week 7 vs. Mississippi State
  • Week 13 at Arkansas

Assuming LSU takes care of business in those games, the Tigers would only need to go 3-3 against the meat of its schedule to hit the over.

There will certainly be some tough games in that mix, but LSU gets Texas A&M, Alabama, and Texas in Baton Rouge.

SEC Win Total Best Bet: South Carolina Under 6.5 Wins

There were high expectations for South Carolina entering last year, but the Gamecocks faceplanted and won just four contests.

This win total line implies a significant bounce-back, which feels like leftover optimism from the team’s surprisingly strong 2024 campaign.

LaNorris Sellers entered last year as a Heisman hopeful, but he showed no improvement as a passer and remains nothing more than a running quarterback at this stage of his career.

And since teams have learned not to fear his arm, his run-game production took a significant hit last year.

The biggest concern in Sellers’ game is his inability to handle pressure.

According to Sports Info Solutions, Sellers was sacked on 26% of his dropbacks versus pressure, ranked 146th out of 155 quarterbacks in the FBS.

South Carolina tried to upgrade the offseason line, most notably with NC State transfer left tackle Jacarrius Peak, but he is now injured with no return date set.

If Sellers doesn’t improve his ability to process from the pocket, the offensive line upgrade won’t matter.

Sellers got rid of the ball in 2.5 seconds or less just 35% of the time, according to PFF, the nation’s seventh-lowest rate.

To make matters worse for the Gamecocks, the schedule remains among the hardest in the SEC, most notably due to road games at Alabama, Florida, and Oklahoma.

SEC Win Total Best Bet: Kentucky Over 4.5 Wins

Kentucky might have the widest range of outcomes in the SEC due to the talent brought into the program this offseason.

Although expectations are low, first-time head coach Will Stein loaded up on former four- and five-star prospects in the portal, most notably quarterback Kenny Minchey (Notre Dame), running back CJ Baxter (Texas) and left tackle Lance Heard (Tennessee).

There’s a chance it doesn’t all come together right away, but it’s worth betting on Stein’s ability to design a dangerous offense around his talent.

Kentucky is also aided by a manageable schedule that avoids the two SEC favorites: Texas and Georgia.

The Wildcats also return several key contributors on defense, which was a stronger unit than you’d expect from a program that missed a bowl game in each of Mark Stoops’ final two seasons.

Check out these opponent-adjusted numbers on Kentucky’s run defense last year:

  • Ranked 18th in yards before contact allowed
  • Ranked 5th in yards after contact allowed

The cupboard is certainly not bare for coordinator Jay Bateman, who joins the Wildcats after two years in the same role at Texas A&M.

SEC Win Total Best Bet: Arkansas Under 3.5 Wins

New head coach Ryan Silverfield will have to work some magic to squeeze four wins out of this roster and Arkansas’ schedule.

Arkansas will likely only be favored in two games (North Alabama and Tulsa).

The Razorbacks' third non-conference game is at Utah, where they will be double-digit underdogs.

That means Arkansas will need to win two conference games to hit the over, which doesn’t seem likely against their schedule.

We can almost certainly count games against Georgia, Texas A&M, Texas, and LSU as losses, which means Arkansas likely needs to go 2-3 against this group to hit the over:

  • Week 6 vs. Tennessee
  • Week 7 at Vanderbilt
  • Week 9 vs. Missouri
  • Week 10 at Auburn
  • Week 11 vs. South Carolina

It’s generous to the Razorbacks to call some of those winnable games, but four of those schools are breaking in new quarterbacks, so we’ll be cautious and not put them down as guaranteed losses yet.

Arkansas is also rolling with a new quarterback, however, and almost entirely rebuilt defense.

Although teams can turn things around quickly in the transfer-portal era, Arkansas ranked 14th in the SEC in 247 Sports transfer portal class rankings, so this is probably not going to be a quick turnaround for Silverfield.
