Best NFL Week 5 Games to Bet On
NFL Week 5 features several key contests, from the Texans vs. Ravens on Sunday afternoon to the Chiefs vs. Jaguars on Monday night. Let's preview both games and give our best bets for NFL Week 5.
Sunday | 1:00 PM ET | Houston Texans vs. Baltimore Ravens (+1.5, O/U 40.5)
Few imagined the Baltimore Ravens and Houston Texans would be 1-3 going into this matchup after those teams had won their divisions in 2023 and 2024. But here we are, and if you combined the Baltimore offense with the Houston defense, you'd have one heck of a team. Unfortunately, both teams are flawed on the other side of the ball, and in Baltimore's case, they are prepping that Lamar Jackson won't be able to play this week due to a hamstring injury suffered in the Kansas City loss. Cooper Rush would start in his place.
This is really bad timing for Baltimore, and the impact on the spread has been massive with the Jackson injury news, as the Ravens were a 9.5-point favorite, so the spread has swung a solid 11 points, possibly a record for one player impacting a spread. But while the Ravens are banged up, they still have Derrick Henry, who has a history of destroying Houston. The Ravens have also smashed the Texans in all three matchups since 2023, so this is another chance for the Todd Monken-coordinated offense to take on DeMeco Ryans' defense, and C.J. Stroud has struggled with the Baltimore defense, scoring a total of 12 points (no touchdowns) in three losses.
Let's not sell John Harbaugh and Cooper Rush short here. Rush was actually 8-1 as a starter in Dallas when he passed for at least 195 yards in a game. Unfortunately, the loss was last year to Houston when Rush passed for 354 yards. But that's why you ride King Henry and get back to basics this week.
Monday | 8:15 PM ET | Kansas City Chiefs vs. Jacksonville Jaguars (+3, O/U 46.5)
The Kansas City Chiefs (2-2) reminded us last week that their dynasty is far from over after they handed the Ravens their worst loss in multiple seasons in a 37-20 stunner. Clearly, there were overreactions to the Chiefs' 0-2 start after losing a pair of one-score games to the Chargers and Eagles. They've won their last two games, Patrick Mahomes is playing great football, Xavier Worthy is back and had an instant impact, and the defense has played very well after a poor start in Brazil. The Chiefs still look like the Chiefs as Mahomes reached 250 passing touchdowns faster than any player in NFL history last week.
But it's a good test Monday night in Jacksonville as the 3-1 Jaguars are taking the ball away at ridiculous levels, with at least three takeaways in every game for 13 total. The Jaguars had nine takeaways all of last season. They're not throwing the ball that great yet with Trevor Lawrence, but rookie coach Liam Coen's offensive scheme has been great for running back Travis Etienne, who is having a career start to his season in a contract year. We'll see if Lawrence can connect better with his top wideouts, Brian Thomas Jr. and Travis Hunter.
Mahomes is 5-0 against the Jaguars, including three wins against Lawrence since 2022. Steve Spagnuolo has been sending all-out blitzes with great success, so the heat should be on Lawrence to keep up with an improved Kansas City offense that is still among the league leaders in drive efficiency.
