Auburn vs. Baylor: Preview, Prediction & Best Bets
Friday evening features a great SEC vs. Big 12 matchup on FOX, as Hugh Freeze's Auburn Tigers take on the Baylor Bears, led by coach Dave Aranda in his sixth season.
The Bears are a slight home underdog (+2.5). This has been a wacky line with lots of movement. Earlier in the summer, Baylor was the 2.5-point favorite. The total is 58.5 points, so expect some fireworks as both these teams should be solid on offense.
Freeze has not finished with a winning record in his first two seasons with the Tigers and is squarely on the hot seat. If Auburn and Freeze want to right the ship, they'll have to get past a Baylor team that won its final six games of the 2024 regular season.
- Auburn O/U regular season win total for 2025: 7.5
- Baylor O/U regular season win total for 2025: 7.5
A real wild card for this matchup is new Auburn quarterback Jackson Arnold. The former blue-chip recruit didn't fare well at Oklahoma, averaging only 5.8 yards per pass attempt on 246 attempts in 2024. That's a hard number to win games with, and he only averaged 3.0 yards per carry as well. We'll see if he can generate more explosive plays against a Baylor defense that struggled last season.
Meanwhile, Baylor quarterback Sawyer Robertson is back for his senior season after throwing for 3,071 yards and 28 touchdowns last year. He also averaged 8.3 yards per attempt and has standout running back Bryson Washington at his side (1,028 yards and 12 touchdowns).

Other Week 1 College Football Games to Bet On Today
With numerous CFB games to choose from tonight, we've highlighted four more matchups, along with our favorite picks. Remember, you can make your $5 Bet365 wager on any of these games, and once it settles, you'll get $200 in bonus bets—win or lose.
7:00 PM ET | Appalachian State vs. Charlotte (+5, O/U 49.5)
They don't call it the Duke's Mayo Classic for nothing. Appalachian State took a step back last year, going 5-6. First-year head coach Dowell Loggains is tasked with getting the team back on track.
He'll be a 5-point favorite on the road against a Charlotte team that was 5-7 and struggled on both sides of the ball last season (100th in scoring offense, 123rd in scoring defense). New head coach Tim Albin had three straight 10-win seasons before taking over the Charlotte gig.
7:30 PM ET | Western Illinois vs. No. 12 Illinois (-45.5, O/U 63.5)
Peacock gets Friday night's only game featuring a ranked team (No. 12 Illinois). It may not be much of a competitive game, though, as Western Illinois is a 45.5-point underdog to their in-state rival.
The Fighting Illini are coming off their first 10-win season since 2001, after going 10-3 with a Citrus Bowl victory under head coach Bret Bielema. With 16 returning starters (3rd most returning production), they'll hope to qualify for the College Football Playoff this year in a stacked Big Ten.
8:00 PM ET | Georgia Tech vs. Colorado (+4.5, O/U 52)
The 2025 college football season will be the first year head coach Deion Sanders doesn't have star quarterback Shedeur Sanders and Heisman-winning dual-threat Travis Hunter. Coach Prime even had the elite duo at Jackson State before they all took their talents to Boulder. How will life in Colorado be without the pair? Will other players, like Liberty transfer quarterback, fill the void?
Georgia Tech, on the other hand, is a solid opponent and a worthy road favorite after another solid season under head coach Brent Key, which almost featured a masterful upset of the mighty Georgia Bulldogs in eight overtimes. The Yellow Jackets are always well-coached and play physical football. Expect quarterback Haynes King to play well.
