This game also features a compelling college quarterback matchup. Garrett Nussmeier (second-best Heisman odds at +900) was solid last year for LSU, with 4,052 yards and 29 touchdown passes. The Bayou Bengals lived and died behind Nussmeier's arm, as the ground game was borderline non-existent at times last season. They'll try to be more balanced on offense this season behind the legs of sophomore Caden Durham.
Clemson quarterback Cade Klubnik also has +900 odds to win the Heisman Trophy at Bet365 after throwing for 36 touchdowns last year, a huge improvement from 2023 when he only had 19 touchdowns. He may be starting to peak at the right time for Clemson and is also a capable runner with 463 yards and 7 touchdowns in 2024. Arch Manning's Heisman campaign (+650) starts against the defending champion Ohio State Buckeyes. It's a rematch from January's College Football Playoff. The Buckeyes won 28-14 after a late Quinn Ewers' fumble was returned for an 83-yard touchdown.
Both teams have new quarterbacks with minimal experience. However, Manning is taking over a great offensive system at a school with the No. 1-ranked recruiting class for 2025. Watch out for sophomore wide receiver Ryan Wingo to have a massive season.
But don't forget that both defenses were elite last season, with the Buckeyes leading the nation in scoring defense. The Longhorns weren't far behind at No. 3. Don't be surprised if the under hits.
3:30 PM ET | No. 8 Alabama vs. Florida State (+14, O/U 49.5)
It's fun to keep things in perspective. Last year, Alabama fans were distraught after the team missed the playoffs with a 9-4 record in coach Kalen DeBoer's first season after replacing Nick Saban. Saban won six championships for the Crimson Tide. According to multiple sources, DeBoer's seat will be very hot if the Crimson Tide fail to reach the playoff two years in a row.
On the other hand, Florida State has been through an absolute roller coaster of emotions the past two seasons, going undefeated in 2023 only to follow that up with a 2-10 season. The Seminoles were the first preseason top-10 team to ever finish with double-digit losses.
The Seminoles couldn't move the ball last year, ranking No. 131 in scoring offense with just 15.4 points per game. They should be better this year, but it's a tough matchup to open with an uber-talented Alabama squad. Ty Simpson looks ready to take over at quarterback after the Seattle Seahawks drafted Jalen Milroe.
