NFL Betting Lines Week 16: Spreads, Storylines & Things to Know
The NFL Week 16 schedule is a strong one heading into Christmas week, featuring important matchups in both conferences. Don't forget we have two Saturday games this week, including a huge NFC North rematch.
It all starts Thursday night with the best game of the week on paper for the NFC West lead and possibly the No. 1 seed when the Los Angeles Rams try to sweep the Seattle Seahawks. They played a 21-19 game last month where the Rams escaped with the win despite intercepting Sam Darnold four times, so it's a huge opportunity for Darnold to get some revenge against the team that's given him fits since 2024. We are unlikely to see Davante Adams (hamstring) for the Rams on a short week after he left Sunday's game injured, and that's bad news as the Seahawks held MVP favorite Matthew Stafford to a season-low 130 passing yards with Adams. It's a game with many big stakes.
On Saturday, there's a double-header with a 5:00 PM kickoff between the Eagles and Commanders. The stakes aren't that high now that the Cowboys' only hope of winning the NFC East is to win out, while the Eagles (9-5) must lose out, but the Eagles can wrap up the NFC East with a win here, becoming the first team to repeat as NFC East champions since the Eagles did it in 2001-04. The Commanders have placed quarterback Jayden Daniels on injured reserve, ending his second season.
On Saturday night, it's the other major NFC game this week when the Chicago Bears (10-4) host the Green Bay Packers (9-4-1) for the NFC North lead. They just met two weeks ago, and the Bears made it a 28-21 game late with a shot at the touchdown in the closing seconds before Caleb Williams was intercepted in the end zone. But the Packers come in with serious injury issues after losing Micah Parsons to a torn ACL in Denver, and wideout Christian Watson may also not be able to return this week. The Bears stomped the Browns 31-3 with Williams looking impressive against that defense, and the Bears have 20 more takeaways than the Green Bay defense this year. They could steal this one and take a commanding lead in the NFC North with two games to go, which could help Ben Johnson win the Coach of the Year award if he pulls this off.
In the Sunday afternoon window, the marquee game is in Carolina, where the Panthers and Buccaneers battle as 7-7 teams coming off losses to maintain their grip on the NFC South lead. They'll meet again in Week 18, too, but it's a chance for Carolina to take the lead at home after slipping up in New Orleans last week. The Buccaneers are 1-5 since their bye week.
In the late-afternoon window, we'll see if the Detroit Lions (8-6) can get an important win against the Steelers (8-6), who have won two in a row and are starting to get the best games this year from Aaron Rodgers. However, the Lions need this one more, as they are not currently in the playoffs, presently holding the third-place spot in the NFC North. We'll also see the Jaguars (10-4) in Denver against the Broncos, who have by far the NFL's longest winning streak at 11 games after Bo Nix passed for four touchdowns to beat the Packers last week. Denver is inching closer to the No. 1 seed in the AFC playoffs, but don't sleep on the Jaguars, who have scored at least 25 points in every game since the bye week.
On Sunday Night Football, the NFL flexed Patriots vs. Ravens into prime time, giving Drake Maye some MVP love if he can pull out a road upset. Maye was held to a season-low 155 passing yards against Buffalo last week as the Patriots blew a 21-0 lead, snapping their 10-game winning streak. The AFC East is not wrapped up yet, so it's an important game for the Patriots, and the Ravens need to win at least one of these next two games to make sure they can play for the AFC North title in Pittsburgh in Week 18.
Lastly, Monday night could be a wild one as we're likely going to see Philip Rivers start a home game for the Colts as they host the 49ers, the quietest 10-4 team in the NFL, who has a chance to host the Super Bowl in February. We'll see if Rivers can improve on his first game in five years after he threw a touchdown in Seattle and led a late go-ahead field goal drive before the Seahawks came back to win 18-16.
