Eagles vs. Chiefs: Preview, Prediction & Best Bets
These teams are familiar with each other like no other AFC vs. NFC matchup in NFL history. They are meeting for the fifth season in a row, and the series is tied 2-2 so far, with each team winning a Super Bowl against the other.
But between getting blown out by the Eagles 40-22 in last year's Super Bowl and the way the Chiefs lost in Brazil in Week 1, their Super Bowl LX odds have taken a hit. Surprisingly, Philadelphia enters this game with only the second-best odds in the NFC to win Super Bowl LX, after the Packers have looked great in their first two games. It's a huge statement game for both teams as they look to assert themselves again in the championship picture.
- Eagles' odds to win Super Bowl LX: +700
- Chiefs' odds to win Super Bowl LX: +1100
This is not ideal timing for the Chiefs to find out how they stack up to the Eagles this season, as this could be another Super Bowl preview. The Chiefs not only don't have Rashee Rice (suspended), but Xavier Worthy dislocated his shoulder three snaps into their Week 1 game. He has been on the practice field this week, but it could be a huge risk to rush him back into action, as he has a small frame, unlike A.J. Brown or some other receivers in the NFL. But the Chiefs are struggling with Hollywood Brown, JuJu Smith-Schuster, and Tyquan Thornton being required to step into larger roles now.
In fact, this is the first time in his career that Patrick Mahomes has not had a lead in back-to-back games. They need to start quickly, which will be tough against the Eagles' stout defense. Vic Fangio has coached against Mahomes' offense many times, and Jalen Carter should be chomping at the bit to see the field after getting ejected for spitting at Dak Prescott in Week 1. However, the NFL deemed that ejection for the whole game was enough to satisfy a one-game suspension, so he's a green light for this huge Super Bowl rematch.
At the very least, the Chiefs should feel better about left tackle with rookie Josh Simmons taking that spot, and the Eagles did lose a lot of their depth and veteran leadership on defense. But they are still young and talented on both sides of the ball, with a better overall roster than the Chiefs. It should be an interesting game, and Mahomes will need to put on a Superman-level effort to get the Chiefs back in the win column.
Kansas City's 27-21 loss to the Chargers in Brazil ended an NFL-record 17-game winning streak in games decided by one score. Regression in close games could come home to roost for a short-handed Chiefs in 2025.
