It’s been a wild start to Week 12 with a pair of blowouts and a COVID-19 cancellation highlighting a Thanksgiving full of football news.

Here’s a breakdown of what key players could be out during this weekend’s action:

  • The biggest news comes from the status of RB Josh Jacobs who has been limited at practice this week. However, he is expected to be available on Sunday.

Injured Reserve: DB Jordan Miller, oblique; DB Damontae Kazee, Achilles.

  • Wide receiver Julio Jones suffered a hamstring injury on Sunday and he is now considered a “game-time decision” for Week 12, per Raheem Morris. Jones missed two games earlier in the season with a hamstring injury, however, he is currently setting career-highs in catch percentage and yards per target. The return of Calvin Ridley does soften the blow a bit. Ridley returned in Week 11 after a two-week, one-game absence and caught five passes for 90 yards.
  • Todd Gurley is out and TE Hayden Hurst missed practice during the week. Gurley has been one of the worst RBs this season based on most advanced efficiency metrics. Gurley is averaging 3.7 ypc, ranks 26th out of 30 RBs in DVOA RB metrics and is 23rd in success rate. He also only has 82 total receiving yards this season. Brian Hill takes over and potentially provide some juice from the backfield. He is averaging 4.4 ypc and ranks much higher both rushing and receiving in terms of DVOA.
  • Luke Stocker would start if Hurst can’t go. Stocker has only 3 catches on 6 targets this season.
  • DE Dante Fowler was limited in practice and may not play. He is the Falcons best remaining edge rusher since Takk McKinley was let go.

New York Giants at Cincinnati Bengals, 1:00 PM

WR Hip/Toe LP LP LP (-)

Injured Reserve: RB Devonta Freeman, ankle; CB Ryan Lewis, hamstring; S Adrian Colbert, shoulder; LB Lorenzo Carter, Achilles; RB Saquon Barkley, knee.

  • The Giants are getting healthy coming out of their bye week. Safety Xavier McKinney and LB Oshane Ximines were designated to return from the IR and the pair of P Riley Dixon and LS Casey Kreiter were activated from the reserve/COVID-19 list after being close contacts with K Graham Gano. McKinney hasn’t played all season after suffering a broken foot in training camp. Logan Ryan and Jabrill Peppers have been the Giants’ safeties all year, but neither has been particularly impressive. Ximines recorded three quarterback pressures in three starts before landing on the IR following Week 4.

Injured Reserve: QB Joe Burrow, knee; RB Joe Mixon, foot; DB Darius Phillips, groin; WR John Ross, foot; DT DJ Reader, quadriceps; G Xavier Su’a-Filo, ankle; CB Trae Waynes, pectoral.

  • The most catastrophic injury of Week 11 occurred in Cincinnati, where Joe Burrow was carted off the field with a season-ending knee injury. On Monday, it was revealed the rookie suffered a torn ACL, MCL, and other structural damage to his knee. The Bengals picked up Brandon Allen off the street and he will start. Allen started 3 games last year, completing 46% of his passes for 6.1 ypa, 5 TDs and 3 INTs.
  • RB Giovani Bernard (concussion) was limited at practice but should play Sunday.

CB Calf DNP DNP DNP Out

Injured Reserve: WR Odell Beckham Jr., knee; CB Greedy Williams, shoulder; WR Jojo Natson, knee; S Grant Delpit, Achilles.

  • The Browns’ secondary is down All Pro CB Denzel Ward and third safety Sheldrick Redwine. Safety Andrew Sendejo is questionable. Slot CB Kevin Johnson has filled in for Ward in the past and could be a candidate to do so again. Johnson received a pass coverage grade of 78.2 when he filled in for Ward in Week 3, it was his highest grade of the season.
  • The biggest news is DE Myles Garrett, LB Sione Takitaki and DE Porter Gustin all missing Sunday’s game due to testing positive for COVID-19. The Browns pass rush obviously takes a huge hit with Garrett out but Gustin was rotated into the lineup last week and depth certainly could be an issue Sunday. Takitaki’s presence will be missed in the run game as he is the 4th best run defender among NFL LBs according to PFF.

Injured Reserve: S Daniel Thomas, arm; DE Josh Allen, knee; DB Chris Claybrooks, groin; K Josh Lambo, hip; WR Dede Westbrook, knee; DT Abry Jones, ankle; CB DJ Hayden, knee; LB Leon Jacobs, knee; TE Josh Oliver, foot.

  • While the Cleveland secondary is a mess, the Jacksonville passing game is in shambles. Gardner Minshew is out again, this time to be replaced by Mike Glennon. Glennon hasn’t started an NFL game since 2017, when he went 1-3 as the Bears QB. Since then, Glennon has completed 67-percent of his passes in four games, throwing two touchdowns and averaging 7.4 Y/A.
  • However, it will be interesting to see who Glennon is throwing the ball to. The Jaguars will be without WRs DJ Chark and Chris Conley, while Dede Westbrook remains on the IR. As of right now, Laviska Shenault Jr., Keelan Cole Sr. and Collin Johnson are the only healthy receivers on the Jags roster. Trey Quinn or Terry Godwin could be activated from the practice squad for depth.
  • The Jaguars secondary is decimated right now. At CB they are without CJ Henderson, Chris Claybrooks, DJ Hayden and Sidney Jones. Jones and Henderson are the best CBs on the roster while Hayden and Claybrooks each played over 140 coverage snaps this season. That leaves only Tre Herndon as the only Jags CB who has played over 10 coverage snaps this season. The problem with Herndon as your #1 CB is that he has been really bad this season, ranking 101st out of 117 CBs in pass coverage grade and 99th in QB rating allowed while in coverage. The other healthy Jags CBs available include 2020 UFA Luq Barcoo who has played only 18 snaps in his career and 4th round rookie Josiah Scott who has 6 snaps under his belt. At Safety Daniel Thomas was put on IR as well, hurting the depth at that position.
  • The Jags pass rush takes a major hit with the loss of DE Josh Allen.  Allen is by far the best Jags pass rusher, accumulating a team leading 22 pressures and the 14th best pass rush grade among edge rushers. Allen has missed two games this season and in those games the Jags generated 1 total sack and allowed an average of 32 points per game.
  • On the OL, Guard Andrew Norwell is out this week. Norwell has been excellent this season, grading out as the 3rd best pass blocking Guard in the NFL. Expect veteran Tyler Shatley to take over. Shatley has been ok this season, allowing 9 pressures on 204 pass block snaps, however a majority of those snaps came at Center. Will be interesting to see how well he performs at Guard.

Injured Reserve: DT Corey Peters, knee; DT Jordan Phillips, hamstring; CB Kevin Peterson, concussion; LB Chandler Jones, biceps; DB Robert Alford, pectoral.

  • Cardinals’ safety Jalen Thompson injured the same ankle that landed him on the IR earlier this season. Thompson missed Weeks 2 through 8 with an ankle injury, but has been a key part of Arizona’s secondary since returning, allowing just 5.3 yards per completion. Thompson is the Cardinals 2nd highest graded defender by PFF. Deionte Thompson filled in when Jalen Thomason was out earlier this season. Deionte Thompson struggled, receiving an overall grade of 53.7 from Pro Football Focus.
  • Quarterback Kyler Murray is dealing with a shoulder issue, but shouldn’t affect his ability to play in Week 12.

  • Rex Burkhead did not travel home with the team after suffering a knee injury in Houston on Sunday. On Tuesday, it was confirmed Burkhead will miss the rest of the 2020 season. Expect an increased role for James White as the team’s primary receiving back moving forward. White currently leads the Patriots in receptions per game.
  • LT Isaiah Wynn is out for Sunday and has been ruled out. Wynn has been excellent this season, grading out as the 32nd ranked pass blocker and 12th best run blocker among NFL Tackles. He has allowed 16 pressures and 3 sacks this season so his loss will be felt more in the run game. Expected to start in his place will be Jermaine Eluemunor who has played 506 snaps in his career and has allowed 15 pressures and 4 sacks on 278 pass block snaps.

Injured Reserve: DE Melvin Ingram, knee; TE Virgil Green, ankle; RB Austin Ekeler, hamstring; CB Chris Harris, foot; S Derwin James, knee; C Mike Pouncey, hip.

  • Linebacker Uchenna Nwosu suffered a sprained AC joint on Sunday and is expected to miss roughly three weeks. Nwosu had been playing in a limited role since the return of Melvin Ingram, but his 23 quarterback pressures rank fourth on the team and his 3.5 sacks are second behind Joey Bosa. This injury is even more magnified because Ingram was added to the IR this week. Isaac Rochell takes over and he only has 7 pressures on 123 pass rush snaps, with 2 sacks. He has 11 sacks in his career on a limited basis.
  • Cornerback Casey Hayward suffered a groin injury on Sunday, which is another tough blow to a secondary that already has CB Chris Harris and S Derwin James on the IR. Harris was activated off of IR last week and could potentially play Sunday which would be huge. As of now, Michael Davis and Tevaughn Campbell are the only healthy cornerbacks on the Chargers’ roster. Hayward has allowed the 2nd lowest completion percentage in the NFL among CBs, but is 115th out of 117 CBs in yards allowed per reception at over 18 yards. Davis has actually been better than Hayward overall, grading out as the 32nd best CB in the NFL and is 41st in QB rating allowed.

  • Veteran WR John Brown is out Sunday. Look for rookie Gabe Davis to get the nod as the Bills #2 WR.
  • Guard Cody Ford is out for the next few games but he hasn’t played well this season anyways. He ranks 74th out of 92 Guards in pressure rate allowed. His backup is Ike Boettger who also has been a poor pass blocker, ranking 86th in pressure rate but 7th as a run blocker.
  • The Bills are struggling at LB with injuries with Matt Milano, Tyrel Dodson, and Del’Shawn Phillips all currently on the IR. Cornerback Josh Norman has also been out since Week 6, bit was removed from the reserve/COVID list earlier this week.

  • Linebacker, and Titans leading tackler, Jayon Brown suffered a fractured arm on Sunday and will miss the rest of the 2020 season. Brown is graded as the 12th best coverage LB among 95 LBs. Will Compton replaced Brown on Sunday and could for the long-term after being activated off the practice squad last week. The 31-year-old has struggled to stay healthy since having a 100-tackle season for the Washington Football Team in 2016 and is not a good coverage LB. He has never produced a coverage grade above 57 when playing more than just limited snaps. In the last two last years, he has allowed 19 of 24 targets to be caught for 197 yards.
  • OL Ben Jones and Roger Saffold are both listed as Questionable. Saffold missed the last game against Baltimore and his replacement Aaron Brewer played well, allowing only 1 pressure all game. In addition, LT Ty Sambrailo was place on IR and he was filling in for the starter Taylor Lewan who is out for the year. Sambrailo has been a solid run blocker, grading 31st among 86 Tackles, but has really struggled protecting Ryan Tannehill. Sambrailo has allowed a 6.2% pressure rate, ranking 62nd among Tackles. He has allowed 4 sacks this season Look for Isaiah Wilson and David Quessenberry to see increased action. Wilson is a rookie who hasn’t seen action this season and Quessenberry has only played 18 pass blocking snaps in his career.

  • The Colts defense is really taking a big hit this week. LB Bobby Okereke, DE Denico Autry and DT DeForest Buckner have all been ruled out. The latter two remain on the reserve/COVID list. The Colts have plenty of LB depth to handle the loss of Okereke but it will be harder to replace two along the DL. Buckner and Autry rank 1-2 in pressures along the Indy defense. Buckner is the highest graded defender on the Colts and the 5th best DL in the NFL according to PFF. Indy will likely turn to third-year DE Tyquan Lewis to take over. He has generated 12 pressures and 4 sacks this season. Grover Stewart and Taylor Stallworth are the other interior defensive linemen currently on the active roster who can fill in for Autry and Buckner.
  • Six Colts players are also ruled questionable including C Ryan Kelly, G Quenton Nelson, WR Zach Pascal, LB Anthony Walker and Safety Khari Willis. Kelly is the only one who didn’t practice Friday and seems to be at biggest risk. Kelly grades out as the 12th best pass blocking Center and 18th best run blocker in the NFL. He has allowed only 1 sack this season. If Kelly is limited or can’t play Sunday against the Titans, then 2020 fifth-round pick Danny Pinter will likely step in at the center position; Pinter has played 27 offensive snaps this season at center

  • Running back Salvon Ahmed rushed for 166 yards on 41 carries over the last three games, but will be out on Sunday with a shoulder injury. Myles Gaskin is on the IR and Jordan Howard was cut and signed to the Eagles’ practice squad. • WR Deebo Samuel is expected to be back and play Sunday. That’s a big boost to the pass game considering rookie WR Brandon Aiyuk will most likely be out due to COVID-19.
  • LT Trent Williams also may miss Sunday’s game as he comes off the reserve/COVID list. If Williams is unavailable it would likely be 2nd year 6th round pick Justin Skule starting in his place. Skule struggled badly in his Week 9 start vs. GB when Williams was on the COVID-19 list the first time. He allowed 6 pressures on only 38 pass block snaps against one of the worst pressure defenses in the NFL. This could be a disaster for Nick Mullens if Williams is out.
  • HC Kyle Shanahan said CB Richard Sherman (calf), RB Raheem Mostert (ankle) and RB Jeff Wilson Jr. (ankle) will be activated from injured reserve and be considered questionable going into Sunday’s game. Keep an eye for breaking news on these three important players.

  • Taysom Hill was effective in his first start in relief of Drew Brees, averaging 10.1 yards per attempt, completing 78-percent of his passes and rushing for two touchdowns.

  • The craziest situation of Week 12 comes with the Broncos having all four QBs on their roster added to the reserve/COVID list on Saturday evening. Drew Lock, Brett Rypien, Jeff Driskol and Blake Bortles will all be inactive on Sunday. Wide receiver Kendall Hinton could be called up to from the practice squad to play quarterback. Hinton spent three years as a backup quarterback at Wake Forest before transitioning to wide receiver in his senior season. For his college career, Hinton completed 53-percent of his passes, averaged 6.0 yards per attempt and threw 8 TDs and 7 INTs.
  • The Broncos have a laundry list of guys who were limited in practice and are questionable including Jerry Jeudy (ankle/Achilles), Bryce Callahan (foot), Graham Glasgow (calf), Demar Dotson (calf/hand), Joe Jones (calf) and Sylvester Williams (elbow). Obviously losing Jeudy would be a major blow to an already struggling passing game.

  • The Buccaneers offensive line is in a bit of flux, depending on the status of G Ali Marpet. Marpet has been out since sustaining a concussion in Week 8. However, C AQ Shipley was an integral part of the Bucs’ replacement of Marpet and his neck injury is considered “career-ending,” according to Bruce Arians. If Marpet is back, Ryan Jensen can slide back to center. If Marpet is out, Joe Haeg could be pressed into action.
  • CB Jamal Dean is out Sunday and that’s a huge loss against the most explosive passing game in the NFL. Dean is graded out as the 7th best coverage CB in the NFL according to PFF and has allowed the 8th lowest ypa while in coverage. Expect veteran Ross Cockrell to take over as the starter. He played well in limited snaps in the 2nd half against the Rams and last season with Carolina allowed 37 of 67 targets to be caught for 441 yards, 1 TD, 2 INT and 4 pass break ups. He is a solid backup for the Bucs to be able to insert on Sunday.
  • Along with Marpet, LT Donovan Smith hasn’t practiced this week and is potentially out as well. Smith has struggled in pass protection, allowing a 6.7% pressure rate including 5 sacks, 3rd most in the NFL. Replacing Smith would most likely be veteran Josh Wells. Wells is not a very good run blocker but has only allowed 4 sacks in his career on 664 pass block snaps. The drop off shouldn’t be significant.
