Most Bet Against NFL Teams, 2024
The five most bet against NFL teams in the futures market this offseason:
- Dallas Cowboys
- Baltimore Ravens
- Buffalo Bills
- Pittsburgh Steelers
- Tampa Bay Buccaneers
The Cowboys opened the offseason with talk of being “all in” from Jerry Jones, but then nothing happened.
Concerns have circulated around the strength of their running game and departures on defense in both personnel and coaching.
Most expect the Cowboys to have a respectable season, but there has been more doubt about whether it is the type of season that can result in 12 wins and any type of meaningful playoff run.
Baltimore has similar issues to their NFC counterpart Cowboys above.
Departures of the defensive coordinator and other contributors on that side of the ball as well as a weaker offensive line are the two biggest issues the Ravens may run into on a week-in, week-out basis.
Like the Cowboys, the Ravens are unlikely to encounter massive struggles and post a losing record, but bettors see enough questions and competition on their difficult schedule to question the ceiling of this team.
The Buffalo Bills have an aging roster, lost a lot at the receiver and safety positions this offseason, and now are dealing with the significant loss of key defensive stalwart Matt Milano.
Unlike the previous three teams, the main issue with the Steelers is at the quarterback position.
The team brought in Russell Wilson and Justin Fields to compete for starting snaps, and neither quarterback impressed.
Coupled with one of the most brutal late-season schedules in NFL history, it’s easy to see why there has been money fading the Steelers the last few months.
Many people viewed the loss of OC Dave Canales as a big issue for Baker Mayfield, and that without Canales, this offense will not be as effective.
While Canales was viewed as a “QB whisperer” in how he helped both Geno Smith and Mayfield improve, I don’t view his absence as the biggest issue for the Bucs.
This offense ran far too often on early downs under Canales and put themselves in tough spots.
The larger issue is simple regression after their incredible luck last season related to schedule ease, turnovers, fumbles, field goals, health, and third down performance.

Most Bet On NFL Teams, 2024
The five most bet on NFL teams in the futures market this offseason:
- Carolina Panthers
- Chicago Bears
- Seattle Seahawks
- LA Rams
- Detroit Lions
People are coming around to the fact that the Panthers simply can’t be as bad as they were last year. Quarterbacks often take a leap in year two, which should help Bryce Young along with the new coaching staff.
The Chicago Bears appearing in the top two is absolutely no surprise. They went undefeated in the preseason and were the team featured on Hard Knocks.
Caleb Williams has looked the part. It doesn’t take courage to bet on the Bears this offseason, and they’ve been heavily bet on as a result.
The Seahawks, on the other hand, have flown under the radar no pun intended, but the likely key factor in there being support is the belief that Mike Macdonald has refreshed the culture and improved the defense substantially.
The belief translates to Week 1, where Seattle’s line against the Broncos opened at 3.5 at some spots this spring and is now at 6.
I believe a large reason for the backing of the Rams is simply fading the 49ers to an extent.
The Rams lost pieces on defense but are still very well coached and have some exciting pieces on offense, but there was real belief this summer that the 49ers would be without Brandon Aiyuk and Trent Williams for some of the 2024 season.
Both are back with new deals, so that rosy outlook is fading to an extent.
Detroit was being bet in large part due to offensive continuity and improvements to the defensive personnel.
Their weakness was against the pass, and the Lions added multiple CBs through the draft and via free agency. They’re competing for support in the NFC North with the Bears, but there are groups backing both these squads.
