  • The Bears have 23 pass completions on the season, the fewest for a team playing every week over Weeks 1-3 since the 1978 Buccaneers (21 completions).
  • Chicago has 19 run plays to just one pass in the red zone this season, the highest rushing rate in the red zone.
  • The Bears lead the NFL in explosive rushing yardage (gained on carries of 10 or more yards) with 335 while ranking second with 6.0 explosive carries per game.
  • 70.4% of the yardage gained by the Bears has come via rushing, the highest rate in the league.
  • 51.1% of the yardage gained by the Giants has come via rushing, second in the league.
  • 43.9% of the yardage allowed by the Bears has come via rushing, 31st in the league.
  • The Giants (12.4%) and the Bears (18.2%) have allowed the two highest sack rates in the NFL.

Quarterback

Justin Fields: Fields has yet to finish higher than QB23 through three weeks as the Bears have swerved into leaning on their run game more than any team in the league not only this season, but through three weeks of any season ever.

Fields has 11.9 passing points on the season, by far dead last at the position. With eight or fewer completions in each game, this is the first time that a team has posted single-digit completions in three straight games since the Tim Tebow-led Broncos in 2011. If the Bears go a fourth straight game with single-digit completions, it will be the longest such streak in the league since 1978.

The Bears will eventually have to throw the football, but with the way the Giants have struggled to score points, Chicago should be able to hang around here. This game could look very similar to the Carolina/New York game from two weeks ago, just a low-scoring slog.

Regardless, with the way the Bears are playing football paired with the fact that despite how little they have thrown they cannot pass protect, Fields is a QB3 that needs to get there fully through rushing.
