Quarterback

Tyler Shough: It was not easy conditions for the passing game in Tampa Bay on Sunday, but Shough managed to get over for fantasy purposes via his legs.

In a rain-soaked game, Shough completed 13 of 20 passes for 144 yards with an interception.

He made up for things by rushing 7 times for 55 yards and 2 touchdowns.

His first touchdown came on a 34-yard zone read.

Shough had 4 designed runs on Sunday, giving him 12 over the past three weeks.

While the designed runs are more stable and an element that the offense is folding in more consistently, Shough’s 13-yard scramble touchdown to give Tampa Bay the lead was just an awesome play, evading three Tampa defenders in the backfield and racing another 25 yards to the end zone.

Shough now has three QB1 scoring weeks over the past four games.

It is unlikely that 1QB gamers need to reach for him in the fantasy playoffs as a streamer, but he is on the board as a matchup-based QB2 here.

The team total is not anything special, but Shough is indoors and facing an opponent who struggles to pressure the quarterback, something we have taken note of in his early career sample.

One of those QB1 scoring weeks came in the Week 10 matchup between these teams on the road.

In that game, Shough was the QB11 (19 points).

The Panthers are last in the NFL in pressure rate (27.7%).

When Shough has been pressured, he has completed 46.5% of his passes for 5.4 yards per attempt with a 4.7% interception rate.

Without pressure, he has completed 71.9% of his passes for 7.1 Y/A with a 2.2% interception rate.

When Carolina failed to pressure Shough in Week 10, he was 14 of 19 (73.7%) for 183 yards (9.6 Y/A) with a touchdown.

Bryce Young: Before the bye, Young was hyper-efficient against the Rams, completing 15 of 20 passes (75%) for 206 yards (10.3 Y/A) and 3 touchdowns.

That was the highest yards per pass attempt of his career, besting the 10.0 Y/A he had just set in Atlanta in Week 11.

His 3 touchdowns were a 35-yard pass to Chuba Hubbard on 3rd and 8, a 33-yard touchdown to Jalen Coker on a 4th and 3, and a 43-yard touchdown to Tetairoa McMillan on a 4th and 2.

The way Young got there in Week 13 does not feel sustainable and something we want to bet on, but it was his second top-five scoring week over his past three games.

We saw Young get hot for fantasy to close last season, but we would prefer to see some more consistency before chasing him as more than a matchup-based QB2.

He still has eight weeks as QB20 or lower.

The week before the Rams game, he left a good San Francisco matchup on the table.

Young bricked the first matchup between these teams at home.

He was the QB30 (1.6 points) when these teams played in Week 10, completing 17 of 25 passes for 124 yards (5.0 Y/A) with an interception.

He only threw 6 passes in that game 10 or more yards downfield, completing 2.

The matchup is still good on paper.

The Saints are 24th in passing points allowed per attempt (0.473), but they only face 27.7 attempts per game (3rd fewest) and the lowest opposing passing rate because of their game scripts.

We also know that Carolina would prefer to run the ball and throw off the run only when pressed.

This matchup could allow them to do that.
