  • Opponents have run just nine red zone plays versus San Francisco, the fewest in the league.
  • 50% of the drives against San Francisco have ended without a first down or touchdown, tied with Tampa Bay for the highest rate in the league.
  • The 49ers are first in the NFL in pressure rate without blitzing (39.2%) while the Rams are 31st (18.1%).
  • The 49ers are 6-1 (6-0 in the regular season) versus the Rams with Jimmy Garoppolo as their starting quarterback.
  • 48.0% of Jimmy Garoppolo’s pass attempts have already come on non-first downs needing seven or more yards, the highest rate of qualifying passers.
  • 34.0% of his attempts have come on third down, also the highest rate.
  • Garoppolo is averaging 12.6 yards per attempt on first down passes (first in the league) compared to 4.8 Y/A on all other downs (32nd).
  • Matthew Stafford is the lowest-rated passer (14.9) on throws 15 yards or further downfield, completing 4-of-14 passes with zero touchdowns and two interceptions on those throws through three weeks.

Quarterback

Matthew Stafford: Stafford played his best game of the opening three weeks in Arizona but had no fantasy points to show for it as he closed last week as the QB26 (10.2 points). Stafford threw for a season-high 10.0 yards per pass attempt but had dropped touchdowns from both Allen Robinson and Cooper Kupp.

The 49ers gave Stafford some trouble in 2021. In three games against San Francisco, Stafford threw for 6.9 yards per pass attempt, throwing six touchdowns and five interceptions. Stafford was sacked nine times in those games while under pressure for 30% of his dropbacks. Under pressure versus the 49ers, Stafford threw for just 5.4 Y/A compared to 8.4 Y/A under pressure versus the rest of the league.

Stafford posted 9.8, 16.5, and 20.3 fantasy points in those three meetings, with the highlight performance coming in the NFC Championship when he threw for 337 yards. In a similar spot playing in San Francisco on Monday night in Week 10, Stafford completed 26-of-41 passes for 243 yards with one touchdown and two interceptions.

The 49ers have opened the season second in the league in passing points allowed (8.0 per game), but have also faced Justin Fields, Geno Smith, and Russell Wilson. Even with his uneven start to the year, Stafford has played better than those passers.

Stafford is a fringe QB1 option in Week 4.
