Quarterback

Lamar Jackson (TRUST): After two mega-ceiling weeks in Week 2 (42.6 points) and Week 3 (39.4 points), Jackson has more mortal games the past two weeks with 13.1 and 14.8 fantasy points against the Bills and Bengals.

Those have been two of the tougher matchups for everyone in the league, aiding that quick regression on Jackson’s blistering start to the season.

Interestingly enough, the Bengals chose to be aggressive with Jackson on Sunday night, blitzing him on 51.4% of his dropbacks (the third-highest rate in Week 5). After decimating the blitz prior to this week, Jackson was just 7-of-18 (38.9%) for 77 yards (4.3 Y/A) with plenty of throws left on the field for potentially huge gains.

Wink Martindale and Jackson are obviously no strangers after Martindale was with the Ravens 2018-2021, coordinating the defense that Jackson faced every day. Martindale has not found a quarterback he doesn’t like to blitz and that has rolled over to New York.

The Giants blitz at the league’s highest rate (42.9%) and play man coverage on 46.7% of passing snaps, second in the NFL.

Jackson has the fourth-best rating in the league (136.5) when teams blitz and play man coverage, throwing five touchdowns to zero interceptions, while averaging 8.4 yards per pass attempt with a 71.9% completion rate.

It also doesn’t help that the Giants continue to stack defensive injuries. Neither Leonard Williams nor Azeez Ojulari played last weekend while defensive tackle D.J. Davidson and cornerback Adoree Jackson were forced from the game. The Giants have pulled out some magic so far due to their limitations, but if all miss this game, they will be flying paper-thin against the best offense they have faced to open this season.
