Wild Card Round Prediction: Austin Ekeler More Than 19.5 Receiving Yards

Before his injury in Week 12, Austin Ekeler topped 21 receiving yards in 7-of-10 games.

The only games he fell short were two games in which Jayden Daniels was injured (Week 7 against the Panthers and the following week with a still less than 100% Daniels against the Bears) and Week 10 against the Steelers when Brian Robinson was injured and did not play, which forced Ekeler into a more run-first role.

The Bucs run defense ranks #11 despite playing the NFL’s #1 toughest schedule of run offenses.

Washington has played five games against opponents that rank top-12 against the run.

Ekler played in only four of those games due to his concussion.

In those four games, because the run defenses are strong and it’s easier to pass vs them, Ekeler totaled:

  • 89 receiving yards vs. #9 Philadelphia in Week 11
  • 47 receiving yards vs. #1 Baltimore in Week 6
  • 30 receiving yards vs. #3 Cleveland in Week 5
  • 52 receiving yards vs. #11 Tampa Bay in Week 1

I expect Robinson to struggle on the ground, the Commanders turn to Ekeler more out of the backfield, and Ekeler to have a shot to double this receiving yard total.
