Quarterback
Lamar Jackson: We are officially in DEFCON 1 with Jackson.
Jackson has now gone four straight starts as a QB2 scorer, including scoring single-digit points in each of his past three games.
He has not thrown a touchdown pass in three straight games while completing fewer than 60% of his passes in four straight.
We gave some early passes against the Vikings and Browns, but these past two weeks against the Jets and Bengals at home have put us on high alert.
Yes, if Isaiah Likely does not fumble at the goal line and Zay Flowers is not called on for a questionable pass interference, the optics surrounding Jackson’s fantasy box score look better last week.
But that would still only mask another rough outing surrounding those plays.
We can attribute some impact on Jackson’s injuries, limiting him as a runner, but he was certifiably bad as a thrower on Thanksgiving.
His 25% inaccurate throw rate was the highest in Week 13.
And that is an ongoing issue.
His 21.7% inaccurate throw rate in Week 12 was the worst in the league.
His 28% inaccurate throw rate in Week 11 was the second worst in the league.
Over the past five seasons, three of Jackson’s highest inaccurate throw rates have come over the past three weeks.
Jackson was also pressured on 44.7% of his dropbacks on Thursday against the Bengals, their highest pressure rate in a game this season.
We can only blame Jackson’s injuries for so much here, and without his legs as an outlet for when things go as sour as they have in recent weeks, we are between a rock and a hard place for fantasy.
Jackson has rushed for 14, 36, 10, 11, and 27 yards since returning to the lineup.
That is still something, but he is on track to post the fewest rushing yards per game of his career by a sizeable amount.
He is averaging 29.3 yards rushing per game.
His previous career low in a season in which he was a full-time starter was 51.3 yards per game in 2023.
I assume many teams that drafted Jackson at his draft capital are cooked at this point, but for gamers who need a win to get into the fantasy playoffs and are still alive with him, this is the meme of the dude choosing which red button to push.
If you continue to start Jackson and he keeps giving you returns based on his recent run, you will feel wrong for expecting something different.
If he reaches the ceiling potential he has shown over his career, you will feel wrong if that costs you a playoff spot for a weak streaming option.
He is as volatile a fantasy option as there is.
That said, it makes all sense in the world to bench Jackson right now if you have a quality pivot against a team that has historically given him issues.
How probable is a week-winning spike here?
Jackson has one 20-point game in his career against the Steelers, and the highest he has finished a week in scoring against them is QB12.
Even in his two recent MVP-caliber seasons, Jackson has been the QB20 (9.9 points), QB24 (14.9 points), and QB13 (20.5 points) against Pittsburgh.
The Steelers have not allowed 7.0 yards per pass attempt in a game since Week 8, facing Daniel Jones (6.8), Justin Herbert (6.7), Joe Flacco (5.0), Caleb Williams (6.8), and Josh Allen (5.3) over that span.
Aaron Rodgers: Rodgers returned to the lineup on Sunday after missing Week 12 with a fractured left wrist, and things could not have gone much worse.
Rodgers completed a season-low 47.6% of his passes (10 of 21) for 117 yards (5.6 Y/A) without a touchdown.
Unable to play under center, Rodgers had a 100% shotgun rate, which made the offense static and one-note.
Rodgers has had only two QB1 scoring weeks this season, failing to throw for 250 yards in any game.
He has not thrown multiple passing touchdowns in a game since Week 8.
Rodgers is a back-end QB2 for fantasy.
Over their past seven games, the Ravens have allowed a 56.5% completion rate (third), 6.4 yards per pass attempt (7th), and a 2% touchdown rate (first).
The Ravens fell on a sword a bit last week.
Yes, they gave up 32 points.
But the Ravens also forced Joe Burrow to complete 6% fewer passes than expected and allowed 5.7 yards per pass attempt.
Cincinnati started on Baltimore’s side of the field four times, and they only allowed 2 touchdowns on 12 possessions while they were on the field for a season-high 80 plays.
Even if Baltimore is not as good as their recent stretch is on paper, how aggressively are we betting on this Pittsburgh passing game posing big numbers?
