Titans vs. Giants Fantasy Quarterback Preview
Cam Ward
Getting 2 rushing touchdowns, Ward climbed into back-end QB1 territory with a QB11 scoring week (20 points).
12.6 of those points came via the rushing scores, but Ward was not a complete loss as a passer in a tough matchup.
He went 13 for 20 for 183 yards (9.2 Y/A) and did not turn the ball over.
100 of his passing yards came after the catch, but that was a massive improvement in performance and play-calling over what we saw from this passing game in Week 1.
That was Ward's third top-12 scoring week.
Two of three have come with rushing touchdowns.
Ward is still best left for 2QB formats, but he at least offers a favorable draw for gamers using him in those leagues.
The Giants are last in the NFL in pressure rate (18.6%).
They are on a short week and dealing with several defensive injuries.
Brian Burns left Monday night with an ankle injury.
Deonte Banks and Micah McFadden missed Week 2 with injuries.
Paulson Adebo was placed on injured reserve before last week's game.
The Giants have faced two of the league's best pocket passers to open the season: Dak Prescott and Matthew Stafford.
So there are obvious grains of salt when applying their 28th-ranked passing points allowed per attempt (0.62) to this matchup.
Jameis Winston
Winston is back as a starter after Jaxson Dart‘s knee injury proved worse than initially expected.
Entering the game, Winston was an outright train wreck on Monday, connecting on just 11 of 27 (40.7%) passes for 111 yards (4.1 Y/A), with an interception and 2 sacks.
29.6% of his passes were inaccurate, the highest rate of any passer in Week 2.
Winston is a wild card.
We have seen him fluctuate between terrible and a point-chasing gunslinger on and off for his career.
He made two starts for the Giants last season, finishing as the QB20 (11 points) and QB1 (32.2 points).
In seven starts with Cleveland in 2024, Winston averaged 17.4 fantasy points per game, throwing 12 touchdowns and 12 interceptions.
Handling Winston as a boom-or-bust QB2, you can make the case for both angles here.
The Titans have not been a good pass defense to open the year, allowing a 73.8% completion rate (30th) and 7.9 yards per pass attempt (22nd) against Geno Smith and Jalen Hurts.
The Giants offense also has a lot of injuries to sort through.
Malik Nabers (shoulder) and Andrew Thomas (groin) both suffered injuries on Monday that we will have to monitor this week.
The other element is whether this new coaching staff will try to limit Winston as a home favorite if we don't get push from the Titans offense.
Matt Nagy and Greg Roman threw the ball 5.1% below expectations in Week 2 with Winston.
