Seahawks vs. Commanders Fantasy Quarterback Preview

Drew Lock

Early reports suggest Sam Darnold could practice this week, so stay tuned for his availability.

We will circle back and update Darnold if he is ready, but with Seattle in another good spot to handle an opponent they should be able to beat, we will open with the expectation that Lock gets another start.

Lock was great in Week 2, completing 19 of 26 (73.1%) passes for 235 yards (9.0 Y/A) with 3 touchdowns.

He ended the week as the QB9 (21.4 points).

Being allowed to play point guard, Lock has not faced much adversity in his two appearances.

Lock has picked apart zone coverages to open the season, completing 28 of 35 (80%) passes for 352 yards (10.1 Y/A) and 2 touchdowns.

Arizona never pressed Lock, something we should at least see Dan Quinn attempt to do.

Through two games, Washington has lived and died by the blitz.

The Commanders have blitzed 40.6% of their snaps (5th).

They have a 50% pressure rate on blitzes (8th).

On blitzes, they have allowed just 3.9 yards per pass attempt (5th).

But when Washington has not blitzed, they have a 23.8% pressure rate (28th), allowing a league-high 11.6 yards per pass attempt and 5 touchdowns.

I am still not getting aggressive with Lock in 1QB formats, but he does have matchup appeal to chase down last week's performance in 2QB formats.

Lock may not be Jalen Hurts or Dak Prescott, but Washington has allowed 20.1 and 27.2 passing points to those quarterbacks to kick off the season.

Darnold threw for 330 yards and 4 touchdowns in this matchup last season.

Marcus Mariota

Mariota will start for at least the next few games for Washington after Jayden Daniels suffered a dislocated elbow on Sunday.

Mariota made eight starts for Washington a year ago, and the team went 2-6 in those games.

In those starts, Mariota completed 62.4% of his passes for 7.5 yards per pass attempt, throwing 10 touchdowns to 5 interceptions.

He rushed for 32.0 yards per game in those starts, with at least 20 yards in seven of those games.

He averaged 15.5 fantasy points per game in those weeks, with at least 15 fantasy points in five of those eight starts.

There will be weeks to use Mariota as more than a back-end QB2, but he gets the unfortunate draw of facing a Seattle defense off to another hot start.

The Seahawks have allowed a league-low 4.5 yards per pass attempt and 10.9 passing points allowed to open the season.

On throws of 10 or more yards downfield, passers have completed 3 of 12 (25%) throws for 44 yards (3.7 Y/A) with zero touchdowns and 4 interceptions against Seattle.
