Week 2 was definitely a win for the quarterbacks.
The collective group threw for 59 passing touchdowns and averaged 7.9 yards per attempt.
Unfortunately, that success may be short-lived.
Several starting quarterbacks are already ruled out for Week 3 and beyond.
The ghost of Russell Wilson trusted himself and made it to the top of the Week 2 passing leaders as Malik Nabers and Wan’Dale Robinson ran it up against the Cowboys pass defense.
Six quarterbacks passed the 300-yard plateau, doubling the amount from Week 1.
Although four backup quarterbacks are starting in Week 3, there are some solid passing matchups that should provide yardage and points.
NFL Weekly Passing Leaders, 2025:
Week | Quarterback | Passing Yards | Opponent |
---|---|---|---|
1 | Josh Allen | 394 | Baltimore Ravens |
2 | Russell Wilson | 450 | Dallas Cowboys |
Most Week 3 Passing Yards Prediction (Sunday): Caleb Williams (+1500)
If Caleb Williams struggles this week, it may be time to jump on the Tyson Bagent train.
That said, Ben Johnson should put Williams in a position to succeed against this vanilla, talent-depleted Matt Eberflus defense.
Russell Wilson passed for 450 yards against the Cowboys on Sunday after six consecutive games of failing to reach 220 passing yards.
The absence of DaRon Bland is critical for the Cowboys, who sit back in a passive zone defense.
Johnson should have no problems picking this defense apart. It’s on Williams to improve his -6.2% completion rate above expected.
Working in Williams' favor is the fact that the Bears defense is just as bad as the Cowboys, and this matchup has potential for a back-and-forth shootout.
Both the Cowboys and Bears are balanced between the run and pass, but the Cowboys rank first in offensive rush success rate while the Bears are last, which potentially cuts into Dak Prescott’s passing yardage.
Look for offensive success which resembles the Lions last season, with multiple players involved as Williams should have success targeting both D.J. Moore, Rome Odunze, and the tight end duo of Cole Kmet and Colston Loveland.
The Cowboys have allowed a 76.6% completion rate to Jalen Hurts and Russell Wilson in the opening two weeks, which sets Williams up for what could potentially be the best game of his young career.
It sort of is an if not now, when moment for Williams, who should be able to take advantage of what is in front of him this week.

Week 3 Passing Yards Longshot Bet: Marcus Mariota Passing Yard Ladder
Rich Hribar has the entire Sharp Football team irrationally high on the 2015 No. 2 overall draft pick.
Working in Mariota’s favor is the fact that the Raiders are quietly turning into a pass funnel defense, ranking first in EPA per rush and 20th in EPA per pass.
The Raiders struggle to run the ball on offense, forcing Chip Kelly to operate with the fourth-highest pass rate over expectation.
The Commanders have the seventh-highest rate, which tends to help play volume.
In a half against the Cowboys last season, Mariota stepped in and racked up 168 passing yards, leading the Commanders to victory.
Hput up 208 yards and 40 points against the Panthers in three quarters of action.
Mariota is a veteran quarterback with solid receiver options against an inferior secondary, and the Commanders are now without both running backs from last season.
Mariota is likely going to be given every opportunity to beat this defense through the air.
