  • 51.3% of the yardage gained by the Bears has come via rushing, the highest rate in the league. The next closest team (Cleveland) is at 43.3%.
  • The 871 net passing yards for the Bears are their fewest through seven games in a season since 1979 (749).
  • It is the fewest amount of net passing yards at this point in a season for any team since the 2006 Raiders (861 yards).
  • The Bears are last in the league in sack rate allowed (12.6%) and second in sack rate defensively (8.6%).
  • Chicago has converted 31.3% of their third downs, 31st in the league. League average is 40.4%.
  • Justin Fields is 16-of-35 (45.7%) with zero touchdowns and five interceptions on third downs. He has been sacked on 22.2% of his third down dropbacks, the second-highest rate in the league.
  • San Francisco has converted 31.4% of their third downs, 30th in the league.

Trust = spike production for that player
Bust = down-week production for that player’s standards

Quarterback

Justin Fields: Fields has now made five starts and has scored single-digit points in all but one with a high of 13.3 points. Not much of anything has gone right for this offense or Fields, If grasping for any hope, Fields has completed 23-of-35 passes (65.7%) for 7.5 Y/A using play-action compared to a 54.2% completion rate and 5.8 Y/A without, but the Bears have had Fields use play-action in 26.6% of his dropbacks, which ranks 19th in the league.

The San Francisco defense is the worst defense the Bears have faced in terms of pressure rate (21.6%, which is 23rd), but they also haven’t faced the Bears yet to help those numbers out. We need a complete identity shift offensively and Fields to show us some promise of a ceiling to start trusting Fields as more than a 2QB dart throw.
