Every Sunday in the weekly fantasy chats, I get asked about my favorite plays of the week or who is my player pool that weekend for DFS.
This article series covers exactly that.
I will go through the players I am targeting as core plays for all formats and will cover tournament plays and games to target for stacks in other posts.
The idea is that this will paint a clearer picture of framing lineups.
Week 5 DFS Content:
Our core players are the players that we will have the most exposure to in their positions.
They can be played in cash games and tournaments and are the players we are primarily building our lineups with.
I will have some analysis on the player selections and game writeups, but check out the Week 5 Worksheet for a fully detailed breakdown of the players and games.
Quarterback
Patrick Mahomes ($8,200 DraftKings/$9,200 FanDuel)
If paying all of the way up at quarterback this week, Mahomes has larger full-game appeal that Tua Tagovailoa in what could be a runaway outcome at versus the Giants. Tua is still a strong play, but one I will be looking to stack for tournaments at high cost versus leaning on him getting four quarters of pressing the action.
This will be an intriguing matchup because nobody blitzes Mahomes and no team blitzes more than the Vikings, who send extra defenders on 57.0% of dropbacks.
Mahomes has been blitzed on a league-low 12.4% of dropbacks.
Since he entered the NFL, Mahomes has led the league with a 124.8 rating when blitzed.
Regardless of what Minnesota does, this is still an overall strong matchup for Mahomes.
Regardless of how aggressive they get, the Vikings are allowing a 76.5% completion rate (31st), but 7.2 yards per pass attempt (20th) and 9.4 yards per completion (fourth). The Vikings are 23rd in passing points allowed per attempt (0.449) and 22nd in passing points allowed per game (15.3).
Mahomes has also now rushed for 45, 30, 28, and 51 yards. Mahomes is averaging a career-high 5.8 rushing attempts per game.
