Quarterback
Jaxson Dart: Sunday was rough for Dart and fantasy gamers.
He finished the week as the QB38 (0.0 points), completing 7 of 13 passes for only 33 yards with an interception.
He took 5 sacks.
He only rushed twice for 7 yards.
We were worried about the matchup against a hot Brian Flores-led defense, but not so much that Dart would play a complete game and score zero fantasy points.
Mike Kafka took the air out of the ball for the second time in three games since taking over.
The Giants had a 39.6% dropback rate on Sunday, their lowest in a game this season.
The Giants threw the ball 23% below expectations and 36% below expectations on first downs.
You do not see those types of numbers.
In Week 13, before the bye in New England, the Giants had a 15% pass rate below expectations and 13% below expectations on first downs.
In Week 15, the Giants threw the ball 3% below expectations but were 16% over expectations on first downs.
Dart threw the ball 36 times in the Washington game with 9 rushing attempts.
Ending that game as the QB10 (22.1 points) keeps the lights on for Dart here.
The hope is that we get something similar against an opponent that does not rush the pass heavily.
The game should not get away from the Giants on the scoreboard, but playing Dart as more than a volatile QB2 takes some blind faith that the Giants will run an optimal game plan.
The Giants have a banged-up offensive line as well, which makes it more challenging to bet on.
Andrew Thomas left last week with a hamstring injury.
Center John Michael Schmitz left with a hand injury.
The Raiders are a nondescript pass defense, but they have not allowed many fantasy points, either.
They are 12th in passing points allowed (13.8 per game) and have surrendered five QB1 scoring weeks.
C.J. Stroud just threw for 5.3 yards per pass attempt against them at home.
They have allowed a 68.9% completion rate (31st), but 7.1 yards per pass attempt (17th) and 10.3 yards per completion (6th) with a 5% touchdown rate (17th).
Geno Smith: Smith was back in the starting lineup on Sunday after missing Week 16.
He ended the week as the QB20 (14 points) against a stout Houston defense, completing 16 of 23 passes (69.6%) for 201 yards (8.7 Y/A) with 2 touchdowns and an interception.
Smith has only two QB1 weeks this season.
Without Brock Bowers, Smith is still a low-ceiling option, but you don’t have to squint to find matchup appeal here as a matchup-based QB2.
The Giants are 23rd in passing points allowed per game (15.5) and 30th in rushing points allowed per game (4.5) to quarterbacks.
The Raiders are expected to get Kolton Miller back this week, who has not played since Week 4.
With Miller on the field earlier this season, Smith averaged 7.5 yards per pass attempt and a 4.7% touchdown rate compared to 6.5 Y/A and a 4.1% touchdown rate with him sidelined.
