Jaguars vs. Bengals Fantasy Quarterback Preview

Trevor Lawrence

Lawrence went 19 of 29 (65.5%) for only 182 yards (6.3 Y/A) against the Patriots, but he threw 3 touchdowns and added 25 rushing yards.

A high-scoring week overall made him the QB15 (19.8 points), but that was a solid fantasy outcome for gamers, considering Lawrence did nothing in the fourth quarter because of the blowout.

Lawrence had 1 dropback in the final quarter, the second time in three weeks Jacksonville has cruised to the end of a game.

The Jaguars are 24th in pass rate over expectation (-2.6%) because they have led so often this season.

As a road underdog here, we are looking for more push and potential fireworks.

He also could have added a rushing touchdown to his line but stopped short at the 1-yard line out of respect to the Bhayshul Tuten gamers.

His 8.6% touchdown rate (3rd) is doing some lifting over expectations, but we saw this from Lawrence to end last year when he had a 6.6% touchdown rate (4th) over his final 10 games.

Lawrence has had 6.4 yards per pass attempt the past two games in sticky matchups, but things lighten up here.

The Bengals are allowing 7.3 yards per pass attempt (20th) and 11.9 yards per completion (24th).

A low touchdown rate (2.5%) has helped them keep things in check, but Aaron Rodgers finally breached that last week, throwing 3 touchdowns.

The Bengals have really altered their coverages week to week, but they have consistently relied on pressure.

That is while blitzing at the league's lowest rate (15.2%).

When they have pressured the opposing quarterback, the Bengals have allowed 4.8 yards per pass attempt (11th).

When they have failed to pressure the opposing quarterback, they have allowed 8.3 yards per pass attempt (27th).

Lawrence has only been pressured on 31% of his dropbacks (6th lowest).

Lawrence does have a 45% completion rate when pressured this season (16th), but that also comes with 7.8 Y/A (5th) and a 10% touchdown rate (3rd).

This game has plenty of shootout upside, so fire up Lawrence as a QB1.

Joe Burrow (TRUST)

Last week's game ended on a sour note as Burrow fumbled in a comeback bid against the Steelers, but before that, he put up his best fantasy game of the season.

He connected on 28 of 37 passes (75.7%) for 282 yards (7.6 Y/A) and 3 touchdowns.

All of those were season highs.

Burrow has been tough to pressure because he still plays most often from shotgun and gets rid of the ball quickly.

Despite the offseason talk of the Bengals playing more under center, that hasn't happened in the pass game.

Burrow has only been under center for 12.7% of passing plays, the lowest rate in the league.

He is averaging 2.44 seconds from the snap to throw, the fastest in the league.

59.3% of his passes have come out within 2.5 seconds of the snap, second in the league.

All of that, and Burrow has only been pressured 29.2% of the time, the third-lowest rate in the league.

That matters because the Jaguars are also a defense that gives up a lot of production when they fail to get to the opposing quarterback.

Without pressure, the Jaguars are allowing a 75.4% completion rate (23rd), 9.3 yards per pass attempt (30th), and 12.4 yards per completion (29th).

We haven't seen the Jaguars be a huge pass funnel through three weeks, but I believe we will here.

All three teams (Browns, Broncos, and Patriots) that have faced Jacksonville have thrown below-average pass rates despite Jacksonville crushing opposing rushing attacks.

The Bengals rank second in the NFL in pass rate over expectation (8.6%).
