Chargers vs. Seahawks Fantasy Quarterback Preview

Sam Darnold

Darnold returned on Sunday and delivered a QB2 (27.7 points) scoring week against the Commanders.

Darnold did throw a critical pick-six and another interception, but for gamers, he was 31 of 45 (68.9%) for 379 yards (8.4 Y/A) and 4 touchdowns.

The Seahawks leaned into the pass on Sunday, throwing the ball 12.3% over expectations.

In the first two games, they were 4.7% and 8.6% below expectations in pass rate.

They struggled to run, and the Washington defense's one redeeming quality is stopping the run, forcing teams to throw.

Darnold is on the board as a potential streamer and boom-or-bust QB2 at home with a solid team total.

The Chargers did actually show up in Buffalo, forcing 5 turnovers and getting 4 sacks on Josh Allen.

They held Allen to 204 passing yards (7.8 Y/A).

Was that a real turning point, or just happenstance after struggling to stop Jacoby Brissett and Kirk Cousins the first two weeks at home?

The Chargers did not do much differently in terms of approach from the first two weeks, just execution and getting a pass rush for the first time.

This is still a defense playing two-high at a 60.8% rate (9th)

Since the start of last season, Darnold has led the NFL with 8.4 yards per pass attempt against two-high coverages, with a 70.5% completion rate (7th).

But he also has only a 3.6% touchdown rate (22nd) and a 3.3% interception rate (29th) against those defenses.

Justin Herbert

Herbert continued the worst play of his career on Sunday, completing 20 of 34 passes (58.8%) for 226 yards (6.6 Y/A) with a touchdown and an interception.

He has opened the season as the QB22, QB26, and QB23 in weekly scoring.

Going back to last year. Herbert has one QB1 scoring week over his past 10 games.

It is hard to bank on that flipping here, so Herbert stays in the pile of back-end QB2 options.

Seattle allowed 3 passing touchdowns to Marcus Mariota on Sunday, but they still allow only 5.9 yards per pass attempt and a 61.3% completion rate for 183 yards.

If the bet is on Herbert throwing 3-plus touchdowns in Seattle, you won't find many takers.

Seattle has allowed a league-low 5.0 yards per pass attempt through three weeks.
