We are officially in Week 8 and heading downhill for the fantasy regular season in most leagues.
This season has been a war of attrition.
Through a plethora of injuries, offenses have been a mixed bag to open 2025.
Teams are averaging 327.3 yards per game, the fewest through seven weeks of a season since 2008.
Despite that, scoring is a little bit up.
The 22.1 offensive points per game per team are the most through this point of a season since 2021.
The expanded kickoff rules, longer field goals, and first downs gained via penalties have aided the cause to offset the lack of offensive yardage.
Due to the expanded rules, teams are starting possessions at the 29.7-yard line on average after kickoffs, the furthest downfield in the 2000s through seven weeks.
We are up to 6 field goals of 60 yards or more, the most at this point in the season and in any full season ever.
As noted, we also have had the most penalty yards at this point in the season since 2019.
There have been 459 first downs reached via penalties, the most through seven weeks since 2019.
At this point a year ago, there were 369 first downs via penalty.
We do not have an international game this week, so this is as “normal” a week as we have had since the opening month in terms of the slate.
We do have the largest bye week of the season to offset that.
Six teams (Raiders, Seahawks, Rams, Jaguars, Lions, Cardinals) are off this week.
Paired with injuries, rosters will be thinned out this weekend.
This article will be updated throughout the week to reflect major news or injury implications.
I encourage you to use the game-by-game tables and data points here in conjunction with the player rankings that will be available every Wednesday.
Enjoy the games!
