Brock Purdy Injury Update
George Kittle is already on injured reserve, and the injury news is not getting better for the 49ers.
Brock Purdy suffered injuries to his non-throwing shoulder and his toe in Week 1.
On Wednesday, coach Kyle Shanahan called Purdy a “long shot” to play in Week 2, and he suggested the quarterback could miss multiple weeks.
As it stands, Mac Jones should be expected to start against the Saints this week, and he might be needed to start games after that, as well.
After the Saints, the 49ers have two home games against the Cardinals and Jaguars before a pivotal road matchup against the Rams.
Dallas Goedert Injury Update
According to 94WIP's Eliot Shorr-Parks, Dallas Goedert suffered a sprained knee in Week 1 and his status for Sunday against Kansas City is now in question.
Goedert was the Eagles' leading receiver against the Cowboys, catching seven passes for 44 yards.
Grant Calcaterra would start for the Eagles if Goedert misses time. He caught 24 passes last season, but is a much worse run blocker than Goedert. Saquon Barkley averaged just 2.9 yards per carry with Calcaterra on the field in Week 1.
Xavier Worthy Injury Update
Chiefs WR Xavier Worthy left the Chiefs' opener in Brazil with a dislocated shoulder. Andy Reid told reporters that Worthy will not practice with the team on Wednesday.
On Monday, coach Reid said that Worthy is “day-to-day,” and NFL Network's Ian Rapoport believes that verbiage is an indication the Chiefs expect Worthy to avoid surgery.
It remains unclear if Worthy will be healthy enough to play in Week 2, but for now, it appears as if he will avoid surgery, which would have knocked him out for a significant portion of the season.
Still, this remains a fluid situation and one to watch heading into Week 2.
Brock Bowers Injury Update
Raiders TE Brock Bowers suffered a knee injury in the fourth quarter after being tackled awkwardly.
He limped off the field after playing one more snap.
Bowers was the Raiders' leading receiver on Sunday, catching five passes for 103 yards.
After the game, Bowers told Tom Pelissero that he feels fine and there's little concern regarding his knee moving forward.
Pete Carroll echoed that same sentiment, telling reporters that Bowers requested to come back in the game, but the team held him out for precautionary reasons.
We'll see if Bowers sits out any practice this week, but early indications are he will be active next weekend.
George Kittle Injury Update
49ers TE George Kittle left Sunday's game in the first half with a hamstring injury and was immediately ruled out for the remainder of the game.
Prior to the injury, Kittle had already caught four passes for 25 yards and a touchdown.
On Tuesday, the 49ers placed Kittle on injured reserve, keeping him out until at least Week 6.
Drake London Injury Update
Falcons WR Drake London sat out the end of the team's loss to the Buccaneers after suffering a shoulder injury.
London had a team-high 15 targets and caught 8 passes for 55 yards before being sidelined.
According to Ian Rapoport, London is considered day-to-day by the team with a sprained shoulder.
Atlanta was already without Darnell Mooney, who has been dealing with a shoulder injury of his own that was suffered back at the beginning of training camp.
Other Notable Week 1 Injuries
- Broncos TE Evan Engram sat out the entire fourth quarter on Sunday after injuring his calf against the Titans.
- Rams WR Puka Nacua exited early on Sunday to be evaluated for a concussion, but he passed the test and returned to the game.
- Lions CB Terrion Arnold injured his groin against the Packers and sat out most of the second half as a result. Arnold was replaced by Temple product Rock Ya-Sin in the Detroit secondary.
- Dolphins tackle Austin Jackson left Sunday's game early due to a toe injury and was replaced by Larry Borom. It's possible Jackson aggravated the same toe injury that forced him to miss the entire preseason.
- Jauan Jennings exited early on Sunday due to a shoulder injury and is expected to get an MRI on Monday to gauge the severity. Kyle Shanahan made a note during his postgame press conference that the 49ers are hopeful to sign Kendrick Bourne this week to bolster their ailing receiving corps.
- Joey Porter Jr. sat out the end of the Steelers' Week 1 win due to a tight hamstring, according to Mike Tomlin.
