As we enter Week 8, there are two types of teams; those who are getting healthy and those who are falling apart.

A well-placed bye week can contribute to a team’s health, especially at this time of the year and Week 8 will feature six teams playing after resting last week. For a look at all of the non-roster injuries, check out our Injured Reserve tracker and our reserve/COVID-19 list tracker.

For all the other news, check out this week’s injury reports with analysis on the biggest storylines and question marks:

– Despite being listed as questionable, Matt Rhule expects Shaq Thompson to suit up for the first time since Week 4. His return should push Jermaine Carter to play a more complementary role after playing over 65 snaps in each of the last three games.

– The Panthers will also get Cam Erving back after he missed Week 7 due to an illness. Brady Christensen struggled in his spot, allowing two sacks and six total pressures.

– As for Stephon Gilmore, the Panthers are going to wait until Saturday afternoon before they commit to him returning. The former Defensive Player of the Year would replace Keith Taylor on the outside in the Carolina defense.

Chicago’s pass defense has allowed only Jared Goff and Matt Stafford to pass for over 250 yards against them this season.

– With Javon Kinlaw and Maurice Hurst both out, Kentavius Street and D.J. Jones will start at defensive tackle.

Street has recorded a sack in each of his two starts this season. Jones has made eight stops this season and earned a 71.2 run defense grade from Pro Football Focus.

Carson Wentz has the NFL’s highest passer rating on deep throws this season and the Titans have both Kristian Fulton and Caleb Farley on the IR.

– Thirty-nine-year-old Andrew Whitworth will be absent on Sunday after suffering a knee injury in Week 7. Former third-round pick Joseph Noteboom will make his first start of the season at left tackle.

Noteboom started the final seven games of 2020 at left tackle for the Rams after Whitworth went down. He allowed just one sack in those contests.

– Despite the “rest” designation, Desean Jackson will actually miss Sunday’s game while trying to find a new team. The Rams have allowed to veteran receiver to peruse the trade market and see if he can find a partner for Los Angeles to make a deal.

Since his three-catch, 120-yard outburst in Week 3, Jackson has caught just three passes and played just four snaps last week.

Mike White will make his first NFL start with Zach Wilson nursing a sprained PCL. White got his first action last week in relief of Wilson, completing 20 of his 32 attempts for 202 yards, but did toss a pair of interceptions.

The Jets did trade for Joe Flacco this week and he should be the backup after joining the team in practice on Friday.

– Things won’t be easy for White with Corey Davis listed as “doubtful” for Sunday. Davis leads the Jets in targets, catches, yards and touchdowns.

Davis’s injury could lead to more snaps for Denzel Mims, who has been active in just four games, but does have four catches for 79 yards and he leads the team in yards per target, albeit in a small sample size.

– Despite listing 18 players on the injury report, the big news in Cleveland is who will be returning this week. Baker Mayfield is back after missing Week 7 due to a labrum injury in his non-throwing shoulder.

Despite losing his last two starts, Mayfield has thrown for four touchdowns in his last two games after throwing just two in his first four starts of the season.

Nick Chubb is also returning after D’Ernest Johnson did his best Jim Brown impression last Thursday night. The Browns boast the NFL’s best rushing attack, leading in yards, touchdowns, and yards per attempt.

With Kareem Hunt still on the IR, expect Chubb and Johnson to take the bulk of the action with Demetric Felton being primarily being used as a receiver.

Veteran Jordan Howard is also expected to be added from the practice squad and could be used as a bruiser between the tackles. However, Jalen Hurts is the Eagles’ leading rusher and the quarterback should get the bulk of the work in the running game again.
