With Super Bowl LIV being set last Sunday, we’ve had nearly a full week for bettors to attack the opening lines. Books opened the upcoming Super Bowl with Kansas City from -1.5 to a pick’em and the over/under at 51 points. As usual, it didn’t take long for bettors to act and the lines to begin shifting.

Opening Super Bowl Odds & Betting Lines:

  • Opening Spread: Pick
  • Opening Over/Under: 51

So far, the line on the game has been fairly split. Roughly 59% of the bets coming in on the spread have been on the Chiefs, accounting for roughly 56% of the money. With the line staying at -1 to -1.5 for nearly a week, we’re seeing little movement. Of big wagers to hit the 49ers, nearly all are coming on the money line at nearly even odds as opposed to taking the point or point and a half.

While the spread has been more neutral, the game total has gone in a completely opposite direction. With bot the Chiefs and 49ers scoring 35 and 37 points in front of everyone on Championship Sunday, big bets came in right away on the Over and the total was on the rise.

Where we stand now is with 84% of the bets coming in on the Over accounting for 89% of the money. That has seen the total get all the way up to 54-54.5 points. People are anticipating a high scoring game and haven’t slowed down reversing course.

Despite both teams being high-scoring clubs, the initial line has pushed into lofty territory. If we close at 54.5 points, that will match the fourth-highest game total ever for a Super Bowl. From a point total stance, the previous six Super Bowls to have a 53.5 total or higher, the under has gone 4-2 with previous four Super Bowl closing at 54.5 points or more going 1-3 towards the under.
