Akers is the youngest back available in this class, turning 21-years-old this June. His efficiency does not match other top backs in this class, but also was not afforded the opportunity to play with an even average offensive line, playing behind the second-lowest ranked offensive line in the country. But Akers still totaled 1,369 yards from scrimmage on 261 touches (5.2 YPT) in 2019. 79.0% of his rushing yardage this past season was gained after contact.

As a receiver, Akers averaged 1.9 receptions per game over his collegiate career, which ranks second in this class. From a physical stance, Akers checked out of the combine with the fifth-highest physical profile score in this class (63rd percentile) at 5’10”, 217 pounds.

With Todd Gurley no longer with the Rams, Akers will immediately compete with 2019 third-round pick (70th overall) Darrell Henderson and Malcolm Brown. Henderson managed just 43 touches for 184 yards and zero touchdowns as a rookie. There were consistent whispers that he struggled to adapt to the zone blocking scheme after steadily given a tarmac in Memphis. Brown enters 2020 with an expiring contract. The Rams went from first in Adjusted Line Yards created (5.49) in 2018 all the way down to 19th (4.26) a year ago.
