Quarterback
Daniel Jones: Jones delivered his third straight QB1 scoring week to open the season, the first time in his career he has posted three consecutive top-12 scoring weeks.
Jones completed 18 of 25 passes for 228 yards (9.1 Y/A) with a touchdown, adding 27 rushing yards.
The last time a Colts passer threw for 9.0 yards per pass attempt or more in three straight games was Andrew Luck in 2018.
Only twice has the franchise had someone do that in four straight games, both times by Peyton Manning.
Not only is Jones playing well within the system, but he is playing natural quarterback better than ever.
On his dropbacks without pre-snap motion or play action, Jones has completed 73.1% of his passes. The league rate is 62%.
He has 9.1 yards per pass attempt on those throws. The league rate is 6.3 Y/A.
He has a 7.7% touchdown rate on those attempts. The league rate is 3.6%.
After the Denver game, we said we are riding the wave with Jones as a QB1 moving forward.
There will be weeks when he is not a QB1 scorer, but this is reminiscent of Sam Darnold from a year ago, with added mobility and potentially fewer mistakes.
Jones will look to keep things rolling against a Rams defense that just awoke a dormant Philadelphia passing game.
The Rams generate pressure without blitzing, ranking 10th in pressure rate (41.1%), while they are 24th in blitz rate (23.2%).
When they have blitzed, they have gotten pressure on a league-high 69.2% of blitzes.
Against pressured blitzes, Jones is fifth in yards per attempt (8.3) to open the season.
The Rams are seventh in use of Cover 3 (44.6% of snaps), which Jones has eaten up to open the season.
Against Cover 3, Jones has completed 15 of 21 passes (71.4%) for 9.8 Y/A (4th).
Matthew Stafford: Stafford was not sharp on Sunday, posting early-season lows in completion rate (57.6%) and yards per pass attempt (5.9 Y/A), totaling 196 yards through the air.
He threw a pair of touchdowns but also an interception.
Stafford has been at his best operating within the confines of play design more than ever to open the year.
On dropbacks with motion and play action, Stafford has a 148.6 rating (2nd), throwing for 10.2 Y/A (7th), an 80.6% completion rate (7th), 12.9% touchdown rate (4th), and 0 interceptions.
Without motion or play action, Stafford has a 42.7 rating (30th), 6.2 Y/A (18th), a 53.6% completion rate (27th), a 7.1% interception rate (29th), with 0 touchdowns.
Because he offers no rushing ability, Stafford is stuck as a floor-based QB2 for fantasy.
He does not have a QB1 scoring week but has not been lower than QB19 yet this season.
This is the best offense the Colts have faced to open the year, so we will get a better barometer of where they stand as a defense.
We saw them play in a high-scoring game two weeks ago against Denver, so this has the potential to be a strong game environment all around.
