Quarterback

Jalen Hurts: Sunday started as more of the same from the Philadelphia offense.

Hurts was only 4 of 8 passing for 17 yards in the first half.

Over the opening 10 quarters of football this season, Hurts had 270 total passing yards with 3 completions of 10 or more yards and 0 passing touchdowns.

On the opening drive of the second half, Hurts was sacked and fumbled, which led to a score and put the Eagles down 26-7.

They were then finally forced to be aggressive for the first time this season on offense.

Hurts went 16 of 23 for 206 yards and 3 touchdowns over the remainder of the game.

He had 6 completions of 10 or more yards, 5 of which were gains of 20 or more yards.

Paired with 40 yards rushing and another Tush Push score on the ground, Hurts ended the week as QB2 (29 points).

This was a confidence boost for Hurts, who still has QB1 overall upside in his range of outcomes.

He is a locked-in QB1 starter for fantasy purposes.

Hopefully, this was the wake up call that will propel this passing game moving forward.

Hurts and A.J. Brown were vocal about staying aggressive moving forward.

The Eagles are unlikely to become a front-end passing volume offense, but they have struggled to run the ball effectively so far this year.

Using their passing game as a marriage to get the running game going is something they should explore.

Now, let’s see them show us that before they are chasing three scores in the second half of a game.

This matchup has given Hurts issues in the past.

Not many teams have gotten the better of the Eagles under Hurts, but the Bucs have been a thorn.

In five career starts against a Todd Bowles-led defense, Hurts has completed 59.1% of his passes for 6.2 yards per pass attempt with 5 touchdowns and 5 interceptions.

He has yet to throw multiple touchdown passes in a game in this matchup.

He has also rushed for only 27.2 yards per game but has managed 4 rushing touchdowns.

To be fair to Hurts, the last time these teams played a year ago, he was without both Brown and DeVonta Smith (also Lane Johnson).

Johnson suffered a stinger last week but is expected to play this weekend.

Bowles has not been shy with Hurts, blitzing him on 42.1% of his dropbacks in those matchups.

Against the blitz in those games, Hurts has a 72.8 rating, completing 58.7% of his passes for 6.3 yards per attempt.

To open this season, Hurts has completed 57.1% of his passes for 5.3 Y/A when blitzed.

The Buccaneers have faced the Atlanta Falcons, the Houston Texans, and the New York Jets.

If we get the second half version of the Eagles this week, this will be their most significant test of the year.

If we get the Eagles from the opening 10 quarters of the season, that is on par with the passing games they have faced.

Facing that light schedule, Tampa Bay has allowed 6.9 yards per pass attempt (21st) and 10.6 yards per completion (19th) with a 3.9% touchdown rate (13th).

Baker Mayfield: Mayfield found a way to fantasy production again on Sunday, despite missing three starters on the offensive line and Mike Evans leaving the game with an injury.

Mayfield closed Week 3 as QB8 (17.7 points), completing 19 of 29 passes for 233 yards and a touchdown, adding 44 yards rushing.

There was a slight adjustment in approach for this passing game, as it was missing many pieces up front and then lost Evans during the game.

Mayfield had his quickest time to throw in a game this season (2.31 seconds).

The Bucs had a season-high screen rate (13.8%).

Mayfield’s pass catchers produced 7.3 yards after the catch per completion after rates of 2.6 YAC per grab in Week 1 and 5.2 YAC per reception in Week 2.

Mayfield keeps finding a way to remain in the QB1 mix regardless of what is happening around him, but this is another challenging task this weekend.

If you were using him as a starter in 1QB leagues, I wouldn't look to stream for him aggressively. Still, I would prefer to use him as a QB2 this week, with more floor-based expectations given the state of the offensive line and the loss of Evans against a more formidable opponent.

The Eagles have opened the year strong again against the pass, allowing 5.9 Y/A (10th), a 3.1% touchdown rate (8th), and 10.3 passing points per game (5th) to Dak Prescott, Patrick Mahomes, and Matthew Stafford.
