Giants vs. Commanders Fantasy Quarterback Preview

Jameis Winston

Winston had his best game since becoming the starter.

He completed 18 of 29 passes (62.1%) for 250 yards (8.6 Y/A) with 3 touchdowns.

He had a nice seam shot to Malik Nabers and a missile to Theo Johnson for two of his scores.

He also threw 2 rough interceptions, completing the Jameis Experience.

With a solid outing (18 points), Winston was QB12 this week.

We talked last week about the spot and giving him a fair shake as a boom-or-bust QB2 since his first two appearances had unique conditions (coming in cold and nursing a lead in the rain).

I still do not want to get overly aggressive in 1QB formats since we could see Winston benched at any moment (John Harbaugh did suggest J.J. McCarthy could be the QB2 this week), but he has a similar layout here for 2QB gamers.

Washington ranks 30th in passing points allowed (19.5 per game) and 31st in touchdown rate allowed (8.2%).

They rank middle-to-back in allowing a 66.7% completion rate (20th) and 7.4 yards per pass attempt (19th).

As we saw last week with Daniel Jones, they are still a hyper-aggressive defense, which Arizona is not.

Washington is blitzing 44.4% of the time (2nd highest in the league).

When Winston has been blitzed, he has a 36.8 rating (28th), completing 9 of 18 passes (50%) for 3.9 Y/A with an interception.

When pressured, Winston has completed 8 of 24 passes (33.3%) for 153 yards (6.4 Y/A) with a touchdown and 2 interceptions.

Jayden Daniels

Dan Quinn said, “The goal is for Daniels to have a full week of practice and start on Sunday.”

We will follow his status this week and adjust if there are any setbacks, but we will open the week assuming Daniels will be back for Sunday.

Expectations are that Daniels will wear a restrictive brace on his left arm.

That could restrict him to only snaps out of shotgun, but Washington was already operating heavily out of the gun and not as much under center as rumored this offseason.

Daniels was averaging a league-low 5.1 yards per pass attempt before his injury.

That is only a six-quarter sample, but he did throw 3 touchdown passes while adding 100 rushing yards.

I don't know if Washington will try to rein him in as a rusher, but he is a natural scrambler.

Daniels has scrambled on 13.6% of his career dropbacks, the highest rate since he entered the league.

When Daniels returned last season after his elbow injury, he scrambled on 16% of his dropbacks.

Washington is expected to get Sam Cosmi back this week, too.

We are waiting on word for Terry McLaurin, but if Daniels is ready to roll, he is an upside option on the QB1/QB2 line.

The Giants rank last in the NFL in pressure rate (22.1%) and will not have Brian Burns for the rest of the season, but they have allowed only one QB1 scoring week through four games.

They have faced Cam Ward (9.4 points) and Jacoby Brissett (10.4 points), but that also includes holding Dak Prescott to 14.4 points and 5.1 yards per pass attempt.

The Giants have allowed 6.2 yards per pass attempt (5th) and have at least 1 interception in every game (6 in total).

They have allowed a 6.6% touchdown rate, though, which is 27th in the league.
