Lions vs. Dolphins Fantasy Quarterback Preview
Jared Goff (TRUST)
Goff is coming off an expected tough assignment last week against Minnesota, where he finished as QB20 (9.0 points).
Goff was sacked a season-high 4 times and blitzed on 79.3% of his dropbacks.
Nothing could be better than following up that grueling matchup by facing this Miami defense and heading to South Beach (as of right now, it is expected to be 81 degrees and clear for Sunday).
The Dolphins are allowing a league-high 0.63 passing points per attempt.
Goff is fifth in passing points per attempt (0.55).
Goff is also the archetype of an efficient passer that Miami has been dissected by this season.
Miami is blitzing at the second-lowest rate in the league (20.4%) and is 28th in sack rate (4.4%).
From a clean pocket, Goff has completed 73.1% of his passes for 8.2 Y/A with 12 touchdowns and 1 interception.
Miami has allowed the league's highest completion percentage (76.9%).
They have been killed in the play-action game, allowing a league-high 80.3% completion rate, a league-high 12.5 yards per pass attempt, and 15.5 yards per completion.
Goff is using play action 36.3% of the time, third in the league.
On those play-action passes, Goff is averaging 9.2 yards per pass attempt (4th).
Malik Willis (TRUST)
Willis has only one QB1 scoring week this season, but he's had a string of viable weeks as QB14 (18.9 points), QB4 (26 points), and QB16 (14.6 points) over his past three games.
He has thrown multiple touchdowns in each of the past two weeks while completing 66.7% and 65.6% of his passes in those two games, his two-highest rates of the season.
That led to 16.3 and 14.4 passing points in those games, his first back-to-back double-digit passing-point games.
He can make that three in a row here against a Detroit defense allowing a league-high 21.3 passing points per game.
Detroit has been better in recent weeks, allowing a 61.7% completion rate to Jacoby Brissett, a 60% completion rate to Jordan Love, and a 58.6% completion rate to Kyler Murray last week.
They have allowed their three lowest yards-per-pass-attempt numbers of the year to those quarterbacks.
And still, they allowed multiple touchdown passes to each of those guys and every quarterback they faced this season.
Every quarterback to face Detroit has finished QB13 or higher, which includes Brissett (25.3 points), Murray (19.9 points), and Geno Smith (26 points).
Detroit is working through a few injuries from last weekend.
We don't expect to see Jack Campbell after a scary neck injury late Sunday.
Brian Branch and D.J. Wonnum are in concussion protocol.
Wonnum is fourth on the team in pressures (14) and third in sacks (5).
DJ Reed is dealing with a hip injury and is expected to miss at least early-week practices.
Kerby Joseph is still not expected to play in Week 9.
Devin White and Thomas Harper remain on IR.
The Lions are also 27th in rushing points allowed to quarterbacks (3.7 per game), coming off allowing 35 yards rushing to Murray.
