Quarterback
Joe Burrow: Burrow blazed the box score again on Thursday night, completing a season-high 34 passes 428 yards and 4 touchdowns.
It was the third time this season (and second game in a row) Burrow has thrown at least 4 touchdowns in a game.
Burrow has been a QB1 scorer in 7 of his past 9 games.
Burrow is a locked-in starter in season-long formats.
This will be an intriguing matchup on a number of levels for betting and DFS.
Only two Sunday night games have gone over the game total this season.
The Chargers have not allowed more than 20 points in a game this season.
They have had a light schedule, but that is still impressive regardless of opponent.
That said, Burrow and the Bengals’ offense will be the best unit they have faced.
The Chargers have opened the season facing Gardner Minshew, Bryce Young, Justin Fields, Patrick Mahomes, Bo Nix, Kyler Murray, Spencer Rattler, Jameis Winston, and Will Levis.
Murray is the only passer there that is currently a QB1 in fantasy points per game.
The Chargers have allowed 9 touchdown passes this season.
Burrow has 24.
Burrow has thrown 58 red zone passes this season, the most in the league.
The Chargers have faced 17 red zone passes this season, the fewest in the league.
We also may get Tee Higgins back this week.
With Higgins on the field, Burrow has completed 72.3% of his passes for 8.8 Y/A.
With Higgins off the field, he has completed 66.2% of his passes for 6.6 Y/A.
We have been wrong on the upside for a few of these Sunday night games, but this is a matchup that has potential to be a back-and-forth game with good quarterback play.
Justin Herbert (TRUST): Herbert has gotten rolling as the season has moved on.
Over the past four weeks, he has completed 68.1% of his passes (QB11) for 9.3 yards per pass attempt (QB3).
He has still only thrown one interception this season.
Herbert has reeled off three straight QB1 games for fantasy.
Another added element for Herbert is that he is running more.
He started the season with a preseason foot injury and suffered an ankle injury early on.
Those appear to be behind him.
Herbert has games with 49 and 32 rushing yards over his past three games.
He opened up the scoring last week with a designed 4-yard touchdown run.
The Bengals have allowed a league-high 33.6 rushing yards per game to quarterbacks.
In 10 games, they have allowed 29 or more rushing yards to eight different quarterbacks.
The Chargers did pull back on the passing volume last week (18 attempts) in another one-sided game, but we are looking for them to be pushed here to throw.
If that happens, then Herbert will be attacking a Cincinnati pass defense we have targeted.
The Bengals are 28th in passing points allowed per game (15.0) on top of all of the rushing they have allowed.
