Week 11 Prediction: J.K. Dobbins Less Than 14.5 Rushing Attempts
Gus Edwards returned from injured reserve last week and had 10 carries for 55 yards (5.5 YPC) while J.K. Dobbins had 15 for 50 yards (3.3 YPC).
After the game, OC Greg Roman raved about how great it was to get Edwards back in the mix and looking like himself again.
In the first three quarters of that game, both running backs had exactly 8 rushing attempts.
It wasn’t until the fourth quarter in garbage time that Dobbins had an additional 7 carries, nearly double his total in the first three quarters.
Instead of playing the Titans offense, the Chargers will be facing the Bengals. The Bengals have the NFL’s #8 ranked passing attack, which is by far the best the Chargers have seen this year.
The Chargers have enjoyed blowout wins the last three weeks, but this team doesn’t have nearly the same rushing volume in close games.
Their RBs combined for 17 total rushes vs. the Chiefs in Week 4, and they combined for 14 total rushing attempts against the Cardinals in Week 7.
Both were one-score games and ended up being narrow Chargers losses.
Dobbins didn’t come close to hitting 15+ rushing attempts in those games and now must deal with fending off Edwards for rushing attempts.
With this game unlikely to be a blowout Chargers win over the Bengals, it will be hard for Dobbins to hit 15+ rushes.
