- The 2024 season featured the fewest combined pass attempts per game in an NFL season since 2008 (64.6).
- For the fifth year in a row, the average depth of throw across the league was below 8.0 yards downfield, something that had not happened in the 2000s before 2020.
- NFL quarterbacks took a sack on 21.1% of their pressures last season, the highest rate over the past five seasons.
- Just by taking a sack on a possession, you cut your points per drive by more than half while lowering your odds of scoring a touchdown by nearly two thirds.
As we continue to roll on through the offseason and prepare for the 2025 fantasy season, we are taking a top down look at production for each fantasy position.

The 2024 season featured the fewest combined pass attempts per game in an NFL season since 2008 (64.6).
As a result, passing yardage continued to lag.
This is the first time since at least 2009 that you can find three consecutive seasons where NFL games combined for 440 or fewer passing yards.
However, teams experienced a surge in passing efficiency last season to make up ground.
The league’s 65.3% completion rate was the highest recorded in any NFL season.
Passing touchdowns were just short of 3.0 per game but increased in 2024 compared to the previous two years, primarily due to a spike in touchdown rate.
The league’s 4.5% touchdown rate was the highest since the 2020 season.
Not featured in the table, but the league’s 2.17% interception rate was also an all-time low for a season.
As a result of putting that all together, the league’s collective 92.3 passer rating ended up as the third-best mark of any season.
Piling that all together also meant we saw more fantasy points through the air.
We did not return to the production levels we achieved over the 2018-2021 seasons, but the 27.8 passing points per game for fantasy purposes was nearly a whole point better per game than the previous two seasons.
Yesterday, we covered some of the areas where offenses began to find answers for the defensive spike that occurred during the 2020 and 2021 seasons, which were impacted by COVID-19 regulations.
